Mammootty’s Turbo has collected a whopping ₹70 crore worldwide in 11 days and is turning out to be a blockbuster.

Released on 23  May, the film received a tremendous response from the audience. It was released in over 70 countries, first-ever for a Malayalam movie.

Turbo registered a collection of ₹50 crore at the global box office in less than a week. It earned ₹35 crore in Kerala alone and over ₹25 crore from overseas markets.

Turbo has been witnessing a steady collection in Kerala since its opening day. Several exhibitors are organising special night shows across the state to meet the demand.

With the Malayalam movie raking in ₹70 crore, Mammootty’s fans are overjoyed. Also, it marks the Malayalam superstar’s return to mass movies. He has otherwise been doing action flicks of late.

The actor’s recent works—Rorschach (2022), Kaathal-The Core (2023), Kannur Squad (2023), Nanpakal Nerath Mayakkam (2023), and Bramayugam (2024)—were not commercial films. However, they all did extremely well at the box office.

Bheeshma Parvam (2022) was the last film where Mammootty appeared in a mass role (as a don based in Kochi).

Turbo also marks the comeback of director Vysakh whose previous movies, Monster (2022) and Night Drive (2022), were flops.

Vysakh clarified that the films were meant for OTT space but were released in theatres since COVID-19 restrictions were eased.

Turbo beats Manjummel Boys

Turbo was initially planned to be released in June, but the decision to change the release date helped the film as the vacation period is over now.

The Mammootty-starrer has been a tough competitor for Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph’s Guruvayoor Ambala Nadayil, which collected around ₹80 crore so far at the global box office.

Truth Global Films did the overseas distribution for Turbo. The company was keen to release the film in Croatia and Australia.

Meanwhile, the makers claimed that Turbo broke the record of Manjummel Boys (2024) and became the highest-grossing Malayalam film in Saudi Arabia.

Turbo was written by Midhun Manuel Thomas, produced by Mammootty Kampany, and distributed by Wayfarer Films.

It featured Kannada actor Raj B Shetty as the antagonist and Anjana Jayaprakash as the female lead.

On Monday, 3 June, the makers released a making video of the climax fight in Turbo. The one-minute-32-second video has caught the fancy of Mammootty’s fans and garnered over 160k views in the past 15 hours.
