Mohanlal’s latest superhit film Neru witnessed a good theatrical run and collected a gross of ₹100 crore worldwide.
The story was well complemented by brilliant performances by Mohanlal, Anaswara Rajan, Jagadeesh, and Siddique.
The Mohanlal-starrer will soon be streaming on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar from 23 January.
Made on a comparatively small budget, the movie gained an audience after a positive response on the opening day.
Soon after it received a positive talk from the audience, Mohanlal said the audience would accept films with good content.
Neru was released along with Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire and Dunki. But the Mohanlal-starrer had the backing of the family audience, and the Christmas holiday season helped the Malayalam movie mint money at the box office.
Neru is an emotional courtroom drama that deals with a socially relevant issue. Anaswara Rajan’s career-break performance is one of the highlights of the film. It is a comeback movie for Mohanlal, who had back-to-back flops.
It is directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
While Neru became a blockbuster, talks are going on to remake it in other languages. The remake in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada will be done jointly by Aashirvad Cinemas and the respective production houses in these states.
Santhi Mayadevi, a lawyer, wrote the script of Neru along with Jeethu Joseph. She also appeared as Ahana in the movie.
