Actor Unni Mukundan has recently confirmed that his hit film Marco is not going to have a sequel.
In response to a query from a fan about when the sequel to the action entertainer will release, the actor wrote: “Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series.”
Reasoning the move, Unni Mukundan claimed that there was too much negativity around the project. “I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers,” he added.
The film released in 2024 was a huge hit at the box office, however, it was also criticised for it’s portrayal of violence.
The CBFC had previously denied satellite rights for the film’s television screening, citing its extremely violent content as unsuitable for family audiences. The concerned officials suggested that the parents should be cautious about what their children watch.
While the film is available online, the CBFC’s Regional Officer, Nadeem Thufail, also requested the Centre intervene to remove the film from OTT platforms.
Following the controversy, the producer stated he would avoid making violence-heavy films in the future. For his next project, Kaattalan, he instructed writers to exclude violent scenes.
On social media, many viewers criticised the movie’s excessive violence. However, some film enthusiasts argue that censorship limits filmmakers’ creativity.
The ensemble cast of Marco includes Kabir Duhan Singh, Anson Paul, Arjun Nandakumar, Durva Thaker, Yukti Tareja, Abhimanyu Shammy Thilakan, Ishan Shoukath, Siddique, Jagadish and Riyaz Khan, among others.
Chandru Selvaraj handled the cinematography for Marco, with Shameer Muhammed as the editor. KGF-fame Ravi Basrur composed the music.
Marco is produced by Shareef Muhammed and Abdul Gadhaf of Cubes Entertainments, in collaboration with Unni Mukundan Films, the lead actor’s home production company.
“Marco is the most violent movie ever made in Malayalam. Unni Mukundan’s swag and stylish filmmaking are the takeaways of the movie with a predictable story,” our review read.
Later in the day, the actor took to his Instagram stories to thank the audience for their support. He wrote: “Guys! Thank you for all the wishes and anticipation that each one of you has showed to me through the DM’s and comments. But like i said the next in Malayalam will surely be a high octane entertainer. No speculations needed. Haven’t signed a Malayalam film as yet, but, I’ll keep each one of u informed. The pre works are on, and m waiting for the right time to annouce it. All for good, thanks for keeping me motivated.”
