L2: Empuraan teaser: Mohanlal back in action packed role

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest venture L2: Empuraan is gearing up for release, and will hit the big screen on 27 March 2025. The film is the sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer. 

With two months left to the release, the makers on Republic Day, launched the teaser of the film. The teaser launch held in Kochi was a star-studded event. The day also marked 25 years of Aashirwad Cinemas.

The teaser set in the deserted town of “Qaraqosh in Northern Iraq”, introduces Mohanlal’s Kureshi Ab’ram. The two-and-half-minute teaser showcases Mohanlal in a high-octane, action-packed role, with grand visuals. It delves into themes of power, betrayal, and control, blending the political world.

Sharing the teaser, the actor-director wrote: “Welcome to the world of #L2E #EMPURAAN The 2nd instalment of the #LUCIFER franchise! In theatres worldwide 27th March 2025!”

Apart from the cast and crew of the film, the event saw the presence of other celebrities like Mammootty, and Vidaa Muyarchi director Magizh Thirumeni.

Part three on cards

Speaking at the event, director Prithviraj hinted at the third part of the Lucifer series, “Part three would happen only if Empuraan becomes a big success,” he said.

Speaking of the producer Antony Perumbavoor, Prithviraj said, “There is someone more crazy about cinema than me, and that is Antony Perumbavoor. Like my associate directors and technicians, he stood by me throughout this project knowing it full well.”

Prithviraj has also reportedly spoken highly of Mohanlal’s unwavering support for the film. “He backed the project more than as a star or actor. He threw his weight behind all the big, ambitious scenes I planned to shoot.”

Lucifer was produced by Aashirwad Productions and helmed by Antony Perumbavoor, a close associate of Mohanlal.

Apart from Mohanlal, the film has Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others in lead roles. L2: Empuraan is touted to be an action entertainer.

The shooting of L2: Empuraan started in October 2023. Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions are jointly producing it.

It will be simultaneously released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
