Neru plagiarism court

The Kerala High Court issued a legal notice to the makers of Neru on Wednesday, 20 December.

The decision came following a writ petition filed by scriptwriter Deepak Unni, who alleged that Neru director-scriptwriter Jeethu Joseph and its screenwriter stole his script.

However, the High Court refused to stay the film’s release on 21 December.

The single Judge Bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran issued a legal notice to the respondents via a special messenger.

In his petition, Deepak Unni said he discussed his script with director Jeethu Joseph and actor-advocate Santhi Mayadevi, who co-wrote Neru, at Hotel Marriott in Kochi in 2021.

According to the petitioner, Joseph and Priya compelled the former to hand over a copy (49 pages) of his script by saying they would seek the help of expert lawyers to “Understand the Emotional Court Drama Sequence” in it.

The writer alleged that he was later removed from the movie.

Deepak Unni also alleged that he realised he was cheated after the trailer’s release, which had the exact sequences written in his script.

In his petition, Deepak Unni urged the Kerala High Court to stay the release of the movie.

Neru is scripted by Jeethu Joseph and advocate Santhi Mayadevi, who played a crucial role in Drishyam 2.

Priyamani plays the female lead in the film. It has casts Anaswara Rajan, Ganesh Kumar, and Jagadish.

The movie is produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas.
