Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph in lead roles, is all set to release on 16 May, Thursday.

The trailer raises the stakes by providing a compelling peek at what looks to be a full-fledged entertainer. Ahead of the film’s release, the cast and crew interacted with the press.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, according to Prithviraj, is something that makes for “happy viewing” and has “repeat value”.

“Having a comedy film to work on after so many years was refreshing for me,” Prithviraj mentioned, adding that being in a comedy entertainer is a welcome change.

The actor also revealed that Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil had a different cast before.

Prithviraj said that Basil Joseph fills the role that he was originally intended to play.

Basil didn’t have a star value then, the Aadujeevitham actor joked.

Prithviraj stated that Basil Joseph and Vipin Das became more popular after the success of their movie Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey (2022).

“Vipin subsequently explained his intention to make changes. As a result, the role I had been offered earlier is going to Basil, and another actor has been offered my role, which I cannot divulge at the moment, but this is a great idea,” Prithviraj explained.

Prithviraj admitted Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil turned out to be the best, and now audiences have to decide its fate.

His and Basil Joseph’s characters in the movie are flawed, Prithviraj said.

As well, he mentioned that the movie had an impressive cast and that he had been hoping to act in such a large cast, saying, “The climax has many actors in it.”

Additionally, Prithviraj revealed that Tamil actor Yogi Babu will play a major role in the film.

Basil Joseph said he was excited as he was working for the first time with Prithviraj on Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil.

Moreover, he said he did not even think he would act again in a movie written by the same writer as his first film Kunjiramayanam (2015).

As Anaswara Rajan said at the press conference recalling her experience, the shooting was held in hot weather.

Working with senior actors was a new experience for her, she added.

‘Not a social satire’

Director Vipin Das said Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil will feature caricature characters and make little sense, openly. He went on to say that this film is not the same as his earlier work of social satire, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey (2022).

“I wasn’t sure if comedy in Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey would work in theaters,” Vipin remarked, recalling his previous film, adding the wedding scene is the main focal point of his latest film.

Vipin felt confident that Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil would appeal to a wide audience because it is a comedy.

About the sets that were erected to replicate the Guruvayoor temple in Kerala, Vipin clarified that they had no choice, however, to utilise them because in any other case, it might have been quite tough to film the movie inside the temple, with the actors.

He continued by saying that the massive set required over two months to disassemble when the filming was finished.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil has cinematography by Neeraj Revi, editing by Johnkutty, and a music score by Ankit Menon.

The film is produced by Prithviraj Productions and E4 Entertainment, with funding from Supriya Menon, Mukesh R Mehta, and CV Sarathi.
