Kochi Thrikkakara Police have registered a case against rapper Vedan following allegations of sexual assault made by a woman doctor.
According to the complaint, the woman first connected with Vedan in August 2021 through Instagram after watching his music videos. The two later met in Kozhikode, where she was residing at the time.
During that meeting, Vedan allegedly raped her. He reportedly stayed at her flat for three days. The complainant further stated that she was sexually assaulted by Vedan on five occasions at different locations, including Kozhikode, Kochi, and Eloor.
In one instance, she alleges that he drugged her before committing the assault. She also claimed that Vedan and his friends had stayed at her residence multiple times.
In her statement, the woman further said that Vedan had borrowed a total of ₹31,000 from her between 2021 and 2023. This included ₹10,000 allegedly requested in December 2021 to fund the release of a song, an additional ₹5,000 at a later stage, and ₹8,356 spent on train tickets for the rapper. She has submitted digital payment records, including Google Pay transactions, as evidence.
The complainant said Vedan began distancing himself from her around July 2023, stopped taking her calls, and eventually cut off contact entirely. She claimed this abrupt withdrawal pushed her into depression. According to her, Vedan referred to her as “toxic” before ending the relationship.
The turning point came when she recently saw an interview in which Vedan spoke about his first love. Suspecting that he was referring to her, she said she felt deceived, which prompted her to take legal action.
The woman’s complaint also names individuals who were allegedly aware of the incidents. Police said an investigation is underway and that further action will follow based on evidence and witness testimonies.
When South First contacted Kochi Thrikkakara police, officials confirmed that an FIR had been registered under Section 376 of the IPC, as the alleged offences occurred before the BNS came into effect. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier in April this year, was arrested from his apartment in a high-profile narcotics raid. The FIR stated that eight individuals were allegedly found seated around a dining table and smoking suspected ganja when police arrived.
However, the case took a turn when police discovered a leopard tooth on a chain worn by Vedan. When questioned, Vedan said it was a gift from a fan during a music show in Chennai last year. The police then informed the Kerala Forest Department in Kodanad.
Following an inquiry, the Forest Department booked the 30-year-old rapper under multiple sections of the Wildlife Protection Act. These include illegal hunting, possession of animal trophies, and unlawful acquisition of government property derived from wild animals.
Vedan was placed in two-day custody by a magistrate court, which ended at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. While the Forest Department opposed his bail citing the need for further investigation, the court granted him conditional bail, ordering him to surrender his passport and cooperate with the inquiry. Vedan maintained that he did not know the item was a leopard tooth.
