'Barroz' is set to release on Disney Plus Hotstar on 22 January.

Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz, which hit the theatres on Christmas has received mixed reviews. While the film was appreciated for its visuals and Mohanlal’s performance, it was criticised for its slow pace.
Now the film is set to be released online, to reach a wider audience. It is set to release on Disney Plus Hotstar on 22 January.
The OTT platform wrote on X: “Step into the magical world of Barroz: The Guardian of Treasures, streaming from January 22nd on Disney+ Hotstar.”
It is set to be available in 2D format in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

The film’s screenplay is based on Jijo Punnoose’s popular novel “Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure“. In the novel, Barroz protects Vasco da Gama’s hidden treasure for over four centuries. It’s his responsibility to pass on this wealth to a true descendant of Vasco da Gama.
Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas backed Barroz. Santosh Shivan is the cinematographer and B Ajithkumar is the editor. Lydian Nadhaswaram composed the music, while, Mark Kilian composed the background score.
Mohanlal’s performance as Barroz was the major highlight of the movie. The veteran actor brings the character to life with unique traits. Known for his love of action scenes, Mohanlal excels in the intense climax fight sequences.
It also featured scenes reminiscent of My Dear Kuttichathan (1984), India’s first 3D film. The technical quality added value to this prestigious project for Mohanlal. The animated “Voodu” character, an accomplice of Barroz, added humour to the film.
“Mohanlal’s debut directorial venture Barroz is an impressive attempt by the veteran actor. The movie surely excels in its visual quality and 3D effects,” our review read.
