In two more months, 2023 will come to an end. This calendar year, the Malayalam film industry has witnessed a handful of super hits and many flops.
Kannur Squad (2023), released on 28 September, continued its run in October and was declared a super hit, collecting about ₹80 crore at the box office.
However, Chaaver (2023) — another biggie released in October — didn’t do as well as expected.
Meanwhile, as per trade analysts, Vijay’s Leo (2023) grossed ₹47 crore from the Kerala box office.
Against this backdrop, a few more promising Malayalam films like Garudan, Sesham Mike-il Fathima, Tholvi FC, and Falimy are releasing in theatres in November.
Garudan is Suresh Gopi’s latest, following his Mei Hoom Moosa (2022), an average flick. The film features Suresh Gopi as Harish Madhavan, Commandant of Police, and Biju Menon as Nishant, a college professor.
The trailer, which was released recently, seems promising.
Arun Varma is debuting as director with Garudan. Writer-director Midhun Manuel Thomas wrote the script.
It is produced by Listin Stephen under his Magic Frames banner.
Ajay David Kachipally is the cinematographer.
The movie, shot in Kochi and Hyderabad, will hit the screens on 3 November.

Sesham Mike-il Fathima has Kalyani Priyadarshan playing the titular role of Fathima.
The trailer gives the impression that it is an entertaining story revolving around Fathima — a talkative young woman who wants to become a sports commentator.
Sesham Mike-il Fathima also features Shaheen Siddique.
The movie is directed by Manu C Kumar and produced jointly by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palani Swamy.
Santhana Krishnan is the cinematographer. Kiran Das is the editor, and Hesham Abdul Wahab is the music composer.
Tamil music sensation Anirudh Ravichander has sung a song which is trending now.
Sesham Mike-il Fathima is all set for release on 17 November.
Tholvi FC is written and directed by George Kora. It has Sharafudheen in the lead.
The teaser, released recently, shows the failure of four individuals of a family — played by Johny Antony, Asha Madathil, Sharafudheen, and George Kora.
The teaser suggests that film may be a good family entertainer.
The film also features Meenakshi Raveendran in a prominent role.
Abraham Joseph is the producer, Syamaprakash MS is the cinematographer, and Lal Krishna is the editor. Sibi Mathew Alex composed the music.
Tholvi FC will hit the marquee on 3 November.

The makers of Falimy, directed by debutant Nithish Sahadev, recently unveiled its first-look poster.
In the teaser, a family embarks on an adventure with actor Basil Joseph taking the lead. Falimy is yet another fun-filled comedy entertainer releasing in November.
It is produced by Cheers Entertainment, which earlier bankrolled Janeman (2021) and Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey (2022).
The movie was written and directed by Nithish Sahadev.
The other cast includes Pradeep, Jagdish, Meenaraj, and Manju Pillai.
Falimy will hit the theatres on 10 November.

Dileep and Arun Gopi have joined hands for Bandra, slated for release on 10 November.
Arun Gopi debuted as a director with Ramaleela in 2017. It had Dileep in the lead role. Bandra marks Dileep’s 147th film and Tamannah Bhatia’s debut in Malayalam.
The movie was written by Udayakrishna and produced by Vinakaya Ajith and Amit Kothari under the banner of Ajith Vinayaka Films.
Sam CS composed the music for this big-budget action flick. The cinematography is by Shaji Kumar.
