Malayalam movie ‘The Face of the Faceless’ selected for Oscars 2024

The Malayalam movie The Face of the Faceless has received a new feat. Three songs from the movie have entered the eligibility list for the Oscars 2024 in the Best Original Song category.

The tribal song “Barala”, “Ek Sapna Mera Suhana”, and “Jalta Hai Suraj” are the songs that have won the eligibility list for the Oscars 2024.

The songs have been composed and directed by Alphons Joseph.

The Face of the Faceless is based on the real-life story of Sr Rani Maria Vattalil, an Indian Catholic religious sister and social worker based in Indore, who worked selflessly for the uplift of the poor.

The film is about the trials and tribulations of Sr Rani Maria Vattalil who worked for the downtrodden and women’s empowerment. She was stabbed to death by an assailant in 1995.

Sr Rani Maria Vattalil’s mother kissed the hands of her daughter’s assassin and forgave him.

Vincy Aloshious played the role of Sr Rania Maria in The Face of the Faceless.

The film was released on 17 November. It ran for 25 days in Kerala theatres.

There are 94 songs from different languages that have won the eligibility test in the Best Original Song category at the Oscars 2024.

On learning about the news, The Face of the Faceless music director Alphons Joseph and director Shaison P Ouseph expressed their happiness by saying that it was a proud moment for the team.

The Oscar nomination period will run from 11 to 16 January 2024, with the official nominees named on 23 January. The 96th Oscars will be held on 10 March.
