The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and Kerala Film Producers’ Association banned actors Shane Nigam and Sreenath Bhasi after receiving multiple complaints from producers.

The producers alleged that the actors are under the influence of drugs.

On Tuesday, 25 April, FEFKA, the Film Producers’ Association, and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) organised a joint meeting in Kochi. Later, they addressed the media.

Producer’s council president M Renjith said both Shane and Sreenath had been often found under the influence of drugs on the film sets which created difficulties for the producers and the crew.

Last week, the members of the FEFKA alleged that some actors were causing a lot of trouble on the film sets. They also blamed those actors for not cooperating with the producers because of which shoots of several movies came to a grinding halt.

According to them, some actors gave the same dates to multiple films intentionally, thereby causing huge losses to the producers.

AMMA general secretary Idavela Babu said they will submit to the government the names of the actors who were consuming drugs.

Meanwhile, Renjith alleged that Sreenath Bhasi doesn’t even know the films he signed agreements for.

The issue became worse after Shane Nigam asked the producer to show him the edited versions of his new film RDX after he felt that he got less prominence in the movie. RDX also stars Antony Varghese and Neeraj Madhav.

Last year, Sreenath Bhasi was in the news for all the wrong reasons after he misbehaved with the anchor of a popular YouTube channel during the promotion of his movie Chattambi (Henchman). He was banned by the film organisations even then.

Reacting to this, Cultural Minister Saji Cheriyan said the government will look into the matter — especially the use of drugs on cinema sets — and asked the film bodies to reveal the names of such actors.

The minister told the media that the government will also organise a cinema conclave to address these issues.

Meanwhile, Film Chamber President G Suresh Kumar felt that there was no need for the producers to act as per the whims and fancies of actors.

“Content is the king and movies can also be made with newcomers. Also, it’s high time for the actors to lower their remuneration since their movies aren’t drawing crowds to the theatres like earlier. As a result, the exhibitors are facing severe losses,” he added.
