The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) expressed its displeasure with the behaviour of some actors because of which the Malayalam cinema is going through a crisis.

The apex body of 19 different organisations in the Malayalam film industry also threatened to divulge the names of the actors if they don’t mend their ‘behaviour’ and cooperate with producers.

The FEFKA held a press conference on Tuesday, 18 April, where its General Secretary B Unnikrishnan revealed that some actors were not cooperating during the shoot and are interfering in the editing process.

He alleged that some actors were creating trouble by giving the same dates for multiple films.

“They (actors) are not signing the agreement with the Producers’ Association which is accepted by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists. These agreements are drawn after much deliberation between the Producers Association and FEFKA,” he said.

Other sections of the film industry have similar arrangements. Once the actors sign the agreement, they are liable to provide their dates, Unnikrishnan pointed out.

He also gave an instance where an actor was interfering with the editing process. “He demanded to be part of the editing process and refused to continue the shoot if the edited portions are not shown to him!”

“Such behaviour is unheard of and is hampering the post-production work. The director can’t re-edit the scenes as per the wishes of the actor,” Unnikrishnan observed.

Against this backdrop, the FEFKA decided to show the edits only to the producer of a film. “Even though there will be space for creative discussions, we plan to support the decisions of the Producers’ Association,” he asserted.

Recently, reports emerged that actor Shane Nigam created an issue on the sets of RDX by insisting that he be shown the edited versions of the movie to make sure that he has equal importance as the other lead actors.
