KGF star Yash and director Geetu Mohandas’s highly anticipated venture Toxic—A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, is back in the news— this time for being shot bilingually.

While it is common for South Indian films, especially the “Pan India” ones to be shot in multiple Indian languages, this film, however, is being shot in Kannada and English. Toxic will then be dubbed into multiple Indian languages.

According to a Variety report, Geetu Mohandas speaking on being shot bilingually, said, “Our vision for Toxic is to create a film with a narrative that resonates with both Indian and global audiences.”

“It’s the synergy that happens when artistic vision meets the precision of commercial storytelling, transcending borders, languages, and cultural confines. With Toxic, we’re crafting a story that will not only entertain but also deeply connect with hearts and minds worldwide,” she added.

Notable films shot in both English and a South Indian language include Nothing But Life (2004), which was shot in English and Malayalam. The indie film Summer Holidays (2018) marked the most recent example of a movie filmed in both English and Kannada. Apart from these, Guide (1965) and Shalimar (1978) were shot in Hindi and English.

Geetu Mohandas, who directed the critically acclaimed Malayalam film Moothon (2019) with Nivin Pauly and Roshan Mathew, is at the helm of this project. Her first film was Liar’s Dice (2013), which featured Geetanjali Thapa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Venkat K Narayana’s KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations are jointly producing it.

Hollywood action choreographer JJ Perry, recognized for his work on films like Planet of the Apes, Iron Man, and John Wick: Chapter 2, has joined the project. The visual effects will be managed by BAFTA-winning VFX studio DNEG, renowned for their work on Dune: Part Two.
