Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1’ to release on 2 October 2025

Apart from winning a National Award for the actor, the first edition of 'Kantara' also earned more than ₹400 crore.

After scoring a massive hit with Kantara (2022), the actor-director Rishab Shetty is now busy with Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1 — a prequel to the 2022 film.

The film announced in 2023, finally has a release date. Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1 is all set to hit the screens on 2 October 2025.

Apart from winning a National Award for the actor, the first edition of Kantara also earned more than ₹400 crore.

The film, while focusing on the traditions and customs of coastal Karnataka, including “Daiva“, “Bhoota Aradhane“, and the folk sport of Kambala, brilliantly dealt with the conflict between humans and nature.

Announcing the release date, the makers wrote on X: “The moment has arrived, the divine forest whispers.”

Produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films, Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1 is being made on a grander scale.

According to the Cinema Express report, the budget of Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1 is expected to be as high as ₹200 crore.

The report further stated that the film has already secured a big deal for its post-theatrical digital rights, with Prime Video acquiring it for a whopping ₹125 crore, making it one of the biggest digital rights deals for a regional film.

The technical team of Kantara are set to continue working on the prequel too. Music will be composed by Ajaneesh Loknath and Aravind Kashyap will handle the cinematography.

Kanatara-A Legend Chapter 1 will be released in multiple languages, including Kannada, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali.

It is touted as one of the most anticipated prequels in the history of Indian cinema.
