‘Kantara’ makers on junior artist MF Kapil’s death: ‘Did not occur on the sets’

On 6 May, Kapil died in a tragic accident. He drowned in the Kollur Souparnika River, where he had allegedly gone for a swim.

Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1 makers on Thursday, 8 May, took to X, to release a statement addressing the death of junior artist MF Kapil.

On 6 May, Kapil died in a tragic accident. He drowned in the Kollur Souparnika River, where he had allegedly gone for a swim.

The makers while offering condolences to Kapil’s family clarified that the incident did not take place at the film set.

The statement read, “We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of junior artist MF Kapil. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Further clarifying about the incident, it read, “In light of recent discussions, we would like to respectfully clarify that the incident did not occur on the sets of Kantara. No filming was scheduled on that day and the unfortunate event took place during his personal engagement, outside the scope of any film related activity. We sincerely request everyone to refrain from drawing unverified associations with the film or its crew.”

Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1

Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1 is all set to hit the screens on 2 October 2025. The film, while focusing on the traditions and customs of coastal Karnataka, including “Daiva“, “Bhoota Aradhane“, and the folk sport of Kambala, brilliantly dealt with the conflict between humans and nature.

Produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films, Kantara- A Legend Chapter 1 is being made on a grander scale.

The technical team of Kantara are set to continue working on the prequel too. Music will be composed by Ajaneesh Loknath and Aravind Kashyap will handle the cinematography.

Kanatara-A Legend Chapter 1 will be released in multiple languages, including Kannada, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali.

It is touted as one of the most anticipated prequels in the history of Indian cinema.
