Kannada watchlist: Sandalwood set to cross the 200 mark in December

While Darshan is returning with 'Kaatera' on 29 December, there are a few interesting films that audiences are eager to watch.

At least 195 Kannada movies have been released in 2023 so far.

Now, with another four weeks to go, Sandalwood is all set to cross the 200 mark.

A star-studded venture, Kaatera headlined by Challenging Star Darshan is, of course, the most awaited flick this month.

Amongst several ventures lined up for release in December, here are the most expected Kannada films that the audience is eager to watch:

Kaatera

After Kranti (released in January this year), Challenging Star Darshan is back with another much-awaited film titled Kaatera.

Directed by Tharun Sudhir, the Kannada film is set in the 1970s and is based on real incidents.

Aradhanaa Ram, the daughter of senior actor Malashree and noted Kannada producer late Ramu, is making her debut with the movie.

Kaatera is produced by prominent filmmaker Rockline Venkatesh. The music is scored by V Harikrishna.

It is slated for release on 29 December.

Kaiva

Kaiva is another Kannada film based on real incidents.

Director Jayatheertha of Bell Bottom (2019) fame helmed this project which stars Dhanveerrah and Meghana Shetty in the lead.

The story of Kaiva is set in 1983.

According to its makers, the world-famous “Karaga” festival in Bengaluru and the tragic incident that rocked the city at that time have a connection with this movie.

Kaiva is releasing in theatres on 8 December.

Ranchi

One more Kannada film which claims to have been based on a real-life incident is Ranchi.

It stars Pramod Mundkur, Divya Uruduga, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Arthi Nair, and Lakshman Gowda in significant roles.

Director Shashikanth Gatti claims that the film is based on a real-life incident involving himself that led to the capture of a notorious gang of dacoits with the help of police in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Ranchi is releasing in cinema halls on 1 December.

Ardhambardha Prema Kathe

Actress Divya Uruduga’s upcoming venture titled Ardhambardha Prema Kathe is also releasing on the same day as her other film Ranchi.

In Ardhambardha Prema Kathe, she is paired opposite Aravind KP, a professional motor-racer-turned-actor. He was the runner-up in the Bigg Boss Kannada reality show in the eighth season where Divya Uruduga was also one of the contestants.

Ardhambardha Prema Kathe is a romantic comedy directed by Arvind Kaushik.

Arjun Janya composed the music for the movie.

Marichi

Multi-talented actor Vijay Raghavendra will be back with Marichi.

It is directed by debutant Sidhruv. He plays an investigative officer in the flick.

Sonu Gowda also stars in this love story that is laced with suspense and excitement.

It is releasing in theatres on 8 December.
