Kannada watchlist: Simple Suni returns with another love story this February — ‘Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe’

Though no big banner or star movies are hitting the screens, at least 10 to 12 films are lined up for release in February.

Kannada films releasing in February 2024

Released in the last week of 2023, Challenging Star Darshan’s Kannada film Kaatera is still going strong after completing the 25-day run at the box office.

With already a month into 2024, around 15 Kannada films have managed to hit the screens in January. Of them, only a couple of films, especially the comedy ventures, have made their presence felt at the box office.

Coming February, though no big banner or star movies are hitting the big screens, at least 10 to 12 films are lined up for release.

Of them, Simple Suni of Simple Agi Ondh Love Story (2013) fame is back with another simple romantic tale titled Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe.

Here’s the list of major Kannada films releasing in February:

Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe

Director Simple Suni, whose last venture Avatara Purusha (2022) was a hit supernatural comedy thriller, returns with Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe. It is scheduled for release on 8 February.

Starring Vinay Rajkumar, the grandson of Kannada thespian Dr Rajkumar, Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe also features his actor-father Raghavendra Rajkumar as his on-screen music teacher.

Director Suni describes the film as a straightforward romantic story intertwined with a captivating musical journey.

It has 11 distinct songs composed by Veer Samarth, including three full-length tracks accompanying the background scores.

The film is produced by Ramesh from Mysore and casts Mallika Singh as the female lead.

Swathistha Krishnan, Sadhu Kokila, and Arun Balraj are playing significant roles.

5D, a crime/mystery thriller, marks the return of noted Kannada filmmaker S Narayan. It is a milestone not only for Narayan but also for actor Aditya.

While it is the 25th film for Aditya, it will be the 50th directorial venture for Narayan.

Aditya debuted with Love (2004), directed and produced by his father Rajendra Singh Babu.

Narayan began his directorial journey with the melodious hit film Chaitrada Premanjali in 1992. Over his three-decade-long career, he helmed numerous popular Kannada movies, collaborating with legendary actors like Dr Rajkumar and Dr Vishnuvardhan.

5D, scheduled for release on 16 February, will feature Aditya and Aditya Prabhudheva in the lead.

Just Pass

Shri Mahadev, known for his roles in numerous television serials, is gearing up for the release of his next movie Just Pass, directed by KM Raghunath.

Transitioning from television to the big screen, Shri Mahadev previously appeared in Kannada films like Iruvudellava Bittu (2018), Gajanana and Gang (2022), and Hondisi Bareyiri (2023)

Produced by KV Shashidhar under the Rays Entertainment banner, Just Pass is a romantic comedy and will see Rangayana Raghu play a college principal for the first time.

The movie is set in a college that revolves around freshly graduated students.

Pranathi is the female lead. Govinde Gowda appears in a pivotal role.

Just Pass has music by Harshavardhan Raj and cinematography by Sujay Kumar.

It will hit the screens on 9 February.

Supplier Shankara

Actor Nischith Korodi of Gantumoote (2019) and Tom and Jerry (2021) fame is gearing up for his third venture — Supplier Shankara.

Directed and written by Ranjith Singh Rajput, the Kannada film revolves around the life of a bar supplier.

It is bankrolled by M Chandrashekar and Nagendra Singh under the banner of Trinetra Films.

Deepika Aaradhya, popular for her role in Lagori (2022), plays the lead role.

Gopal Krishna Deshpande, Jyoti Rai, and Naveen D Padil play key roles in the movie.

RB Bharat composed the music.

Supplier Shankara will hit the marquee on 2 February.

Three films for Pruthvi Ambar

In a rarity in the present-day scenario, two films of Kannada actor Pruthvi Ambar — For Regn and Matsyagandha — are releasing on 23 February.

Directed by Naveen Dwarakanath, For Regn stars Pruthvi and Milana Nagaraj.

In Matysahandha, Pruthvi will be seen as a cop. The Kannada film revolves around the coastal area of Karnataka.

Devaraj Poojari is the director. Actor Prashant Siddi composed the music.

Jooni, directed by Vaibhav Mahadev, is releasing on 9 February. Pruthvi stars along with Rishika in the Kannada film.

A few more interesting ventures by newcomers will also be released in February.

These include Switch {case n: (9 February), Saramsha (15 February), Ravike Prasanga (16 February), and Ladies Bar (16 February).
