R Chandru's RC Studios announces five films

After the humongous success of pan-India Kannada films — KGF Chapter 1 & 2 (2018, 2022) and Kantara (2022), Kannada filmmaker R Chandru’s Kabzaa (2023) was one of the most anticipated pan-India ventures from Kannada that featured Real Star Upendra in the lead.

Dr Shiva Rajkumar and Kiccha Sudeep made cameo appearances in it.

However, following mixed responses from both critics and audiences, Kabzaa ended up as a huge disappointment. Further, producer-director Chandru was heavily trolled for the same.

Netizens referred to the film as an attempt to emulate the “KGF style” of making to encash the pan-India wave. With such disappointment, many doubted whether the sequel, Kabzaa 2 would ever be made.

Cut to 2024 January, the never-say-die attitude filmmaker Chandru returns with not just the Kabzaa 2 announcement but four more films that he intends to release in a year!

Undeterred by the failure of Kabzaa, R Chandru is back and how! After working in silence for over 10 months, the Kannada filmmaker surprised all with the launch of his new production company RC Studios Production, a venture that he came up with in association with a few other like-minded.

He not only launched a new production company but also announced five films along with the title of the movies at a grand event held on Tuesday, 23 January evening.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took some time out of his busy schedule to launch the production company as well as the five movie titles.

The films include Kabzaa 2, Father, Dog, Sri Rama Baana Charita, and P.O.K.

While Father is being directed by Raja Mohan, Kabzaa 2 and P.O.K will be directed by R Chandru.

Anand Pandit will be presenting all the movies being made in association with Alankar Pandian of Invenio Films.

Kabzaa was just a small crash: R Chandru

Following the launch of his new venture, Chandru shared that he had been silently working on his ambitious projects for over ten months.

“I do not care for negativity and only focus on the positive aspects of life. I believe in one’s ability and skills to achieve and not bother about other aspects. Kabzaa was like a small crash while landing on the moon and not a total failure,” he expressed.

Undisturbed by the trolling and negative comments about Kabzaa’s failure, Chandru said he only thinks big irrespective of its outcome.

“I alone managed to produce Kabzaa with a budget of ₹100 crore. I have paid ₹20 crore as tax to the government, something which no other producer will share. Always believed in not aiming at just lampposts but to reach the moon,” the filmmaker noted.

“Kabzaa was one such attempt to land on the moon. It just crashed, that’s it,” he quipped, adding that not all ₹100 crore films end up being successful, and it can happen to any big film.

Chandru also expressed his displeasure that the fault lies in not providing better opportunities to talented directors. “Producers should support young and talented directors. Outside Karnataka, people are only aware of KGF, Kantara, Kabzaa, and Vikrant Rona. We should blame ourselves for not attempting bigger and better projects.”

He also referred to some comments made after Kabzaa and urged people to call him directly for clarity rather than making such comments.

“I was away from all the negativity, busy preparing for the five films. I am planning to release all five films in one year,” he added.

Renowned film producer Anand Pandit, who presented the Hindi version of Kabzaa, admitted that the film did not fare well in the Hindi belt.

Kabzaa did not do well in the Hindi belt but I am very hopeful of its sequel Kabzaa 2. It will certainly do well as a pan-India film,” the producer said.

He praised R Chandru as a wonderful human being and expressed joy in being part of his brand new venture — RC Studios Production.

Anand Pandit is a force to reckon with in the Indian film industry. His company, Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, produced and distributed several Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati films.

A successful real estate developer, he was lately in the news for his 60th birthday bash that was attended by the who’s who of Bollywood, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh, and Sonu Nigam.

History created: Upendra

Real star Upendra, who was one of the guests at the launch of the production company and movie titles, noted that such a simultaneous launch of five films, including the titles of the movies, was something unheard of.

“In my three-decades-long film career, I would have heard of a maximum of two or three films being simultaneously launched at one go. Launching five films under a brand-new banner is something unheard of. A history has been created,” said Upendra.

The actor-director also admired the positive attitude of R Chandru, who keeps rising himself amidst all the negativity.
