Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari

When Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari was released in 1990, it caused a sensation in the entire Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh.

For the film to become an all-time classic, many things contributed, including the pairing of Chiranjeevi and yesteryear star Sridevi, Bollywood actor late Amrish Puri’s memorable villainous role, the timeless music by the evergreen Ilaiyaraaja, and the impactful dialogues by Jandhyala.

Even after three decades, its cult following continues to grow further. Fans constantly appeal to the makers of Vyjayanthi movies to re-release the movie.

A sequel?

No matter how desperate the megastar fans are, a sequel to this Telugu classic is not materialising. In a recent event, Chiranjeevi wished his son Ram Charan and late Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor could do this sequel together.

From a practical standpoint, making a sequel to Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari is not a child’s play. Many of the key actors and technicians from that era no longer exist.

Additionally, capturing the attention of today’s audience, who are accustomed to high-budget and grand narratives like Baahubali (2015 and 2017) and RRR (2022), is challenging.

Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor are acting in Buchi Babu Sana’s yet-to-be-titled film.

The primary hurdle is that the producer Ashwini Dutt, is reluctant to give other film productions a chance to make a sequel.

Considering all this, it is a big task to showcase Ram Charan for the sequel of Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari on the screen.

‘Don’t touch the classics’

But the popular opinion of movie lovers is that they do not want anybody to tinker with the classics like Sholay (1975), Adavi Ramudu (1977), Mayabazar (1957), Daana Veera Soora Karna (1977), Mangammagari Manavadu (1984), and Shiva (1990).

Nor do they want a sequel to these above classics. It’s well-known that Charan has often expressed his reluctance to act if sequels are made to blockbusters like Gang Leader (1991) again.

However, a sequel to Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari sounds promising in theory, if it actually materialises, it would be truly wonderful.
