Actress Ketika Sharma, who rose to fame with her maiden Telugu flick Romantic (2021), is playing a female lead in Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej-starrer Bro. It is scheduled to hit the theatres on 28 July.

During a media interaction on Monday, 17 July, the actor admitted that she was a little nervous to meet Powerstar Pawan Kalyan on the sets of Bro. But then, Dharam Tej made the proceedings easy.

“When Sai Dharam Tej introduced me to Pawan Kalyan sir, I said ‘hello’ to him. He waved back at me saying, ‘It’s completely ok to say hello with a laugh’ and thus broke the ice. It was just a five-minute meeting,” the actress sighed.

Bankrolled by the People Media Factory, Bro harps on the subject of time dilation and the theory of relativity. Its written and directed by Samuthirakani, while Trivirkam penned its screenplay and dialogues.

Ketika Sharma plays the girlfriend of Mark (Sai Dharam Tej) in the flick.

“I am playing Tej’s love interest. It’s about how we bump into each other and subsequently fall in love. Mine is a performance-oriented role.”

The actor hastened to add, “The movie will have a fast-paced narrative. Every character adds to the story. Bro is a message-oriented film,” she said, admitting that it is the first time she is part of an artsy, message-giving movie that could add to her work.

Kethika Sharma couldn’t believe her luck when she heard that she was going to act in a film alongside Pawan Kalyan. “The moment I was told that I am part of the film starring Pawan Kalyan sir, I didn’t want to hear anything else,” she guffawed.

However, the actress doesn’t have any combination scenes with the star actor. “I will be seen alongside Pawan Kalyan sir in one frame. But we don’t interact in the scene!”

The Lakshya (2021) actress explained that Bro has more commercial elements compared to the Tamil original Vinodhaya Sitham (2021), which was also helmed by Samuthirakani.

“In the original, there was a lesser scope for the female character to perform. In Bro, I’ve been given good screen space. Director Samuthirakani was so clear about his vision. He knew what he wanted on the screen.”

She further added, “Samuthirakani knew his frames well. So, he wrapped the shoot in no time. It was fun being part of his film. Audiences would love to watch Bro for its inherent message and philosophy.”

When asked when would she call someone “bro”, Ketika quipped, “Bro is an emotion. All my friends are bros to me. My brother lives in Australia. However, our Bro speaks philosophically about time. The richest asset in this world is indeed time. So, time is extremely expensive and more than money.”

‘Want to work on a biopic’

A professional swimmer since her college days, Ketika Sharma revealed that her dream is to work on a biopic of a well-known personality.

“I have the desire to work with many stars and directors. But I would love it if a biographical film comes my way. But I do know it’s a huge responsibility for any actor to dive in.”

Ketika Sharma was previously seen in Vaisshnav Tej’s Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga (2022). “I am lucky that Bro came to me when I was shooting for Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga. It was nearing its completion then.”

She added, “I felt I shouldn’t miss this opportunity because Bro has an interesting script. The moment I heard that this features Pawan Kalyan sir and Sai Tej, I knew this was going to be so an exciting project. I would want to watch it as a viewer when it arrives in the cinema hall.”

On Vaisshnav Tej and Sai Dharam Tej

Ketika Sharma noted that the brothers (Vaisshnav Tej and Sai Dharam Tej) are quite different from each other.

“Vaisshnav Teja was a little shy when I first met him on the sets of Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga. If he gets comfortable with you, he will be like a child — playing around with everyone. Sai Dharam Tej is not as shy as Vaisshnav. He is fun — laughing and mingling with people. But Vaisshnav takes some time to open up.”

Asked if a movie’s result affects her in any manner, the actor remarked, “It holds true for everyone. It does affect our opportunities a bit. But that’s part and parcel of the game.”

She believes that one has to keep trying; hits and misses are all part of the game. “Many opportunities come our way. One has to recognise them and encash the opportunity.”

Ketika was all praise for director-screenwriter Trivikram who penned the dialogues for Bro.

“They’re pretty. There is one whole scene during my introduction where I and Mark get indulged in a fun banter. If you see the original film Vinodhaya Sitham, there was no scope for the female character to perform. But, in Bro, the makers gave me a good screen space of 20 minutes. We worked for about one-and-a-half months. It was a great experience altogether,” she added.

Ketika Sharma will next be seen in a theatrical film by Aha Studios and a Bollywood project.
