Telugu films with father daughter bond

When director Anil Ravipudi gave a new spin to father-daughter bonding with his latest Telugu release Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), no one assumed that the film would set a trend of father-daughter relationships on the screen until Nani came with a similar story when he teased audiences with Hi Nanna.

The story of Bhagavanth Kesari and how the titular character (played by Nandamuri Balakrishna) infuses strength into the fragile-looking Vijji Papa (played by Sreeleela).

This element of father-daughter sentiment worked big time for the movie as the days progressed post-Dasara.

Nani and Vijay Deverakonda on the same lines

Apparently, Nani’s upcoming Telugu film Hi Nanna runs on the same theme of father-daughter bonding.

Of course, the story promises an emotional journey of a man who is a single parent, raising his daughter while dealing with turmoil in his personal life. How he falls in love with Mrunal Thakur and how he takes the consent of his daughter to marry her is the story.

Then, Vijay Deverakonda’s poster of Family Star caused a flutter. The protagonist is accompanied by a bunch of school girls — the poster hinted that Vijay Deverakonda could be playing a father in the film.

But later, it turned out that there was nothing of that sort.

The Telugu film stars Vijay and Mrunal Thakur as the lead pair, while Ajay Ghosh and Divyansha Kaushik are doing key roles.

This Parasuram directorial is touted to be a family entertainer and is scheduled for release in 2024.

Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan follow suit

Venkatesh’s Saindhav came as another shocker for those who observed this trend.

The senior actor is seen playing the doting father of a young girl. The teaser tells the story of Saindhav aka Saiko, who is at war against criminals and the underworld mafia.

It is set in a fictional city named Chandraprastha.

The film is helmed by Sailesh Kolanu and produced by Venkat Boyanapalli of Niharika Entertainment.

Venkatesh plays the doting father. At the same time, he has a mission to accomplish as his journey begins.

It doesn’t stop here! Pawan Kalyan’s forthcoming Ustaad Bhagath Singh also has this father-daughter element.

As audiences know, the movie is a remake of the Tamil film Theri (2016) starring Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead.

The story revolves around the protagonist (played by Vijay) and his daughter. When the actor befriends Annie, the school teacher of his daughter, the plot slowly unravels.

But time can only tell how much of it is being taken into the Telugu remake starring Pawan Kalyan.

Pawan Kalyan plays the role of Bhagat Singh IPS, while Sreeleela is his love interest. Sakshi Vaidya is seen as the second female lead.

Ashutosh Rana, Nawab Shah, BS Avinash, Gauthami and Chammak Chandra play prominent roles.

The film is directed by Harish Shankar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers.

A recurring troupe

The trend of portraying father-daughter bonding on the screen is not new in Tollywood. Such stories have no particular season, and they keep recurring every time you wish for the trend.

However, of late, filmmakers are giving a new spin to their stories by bringing the new MacGuffin— the father-daughter element to the fore. However intangible it may turn for the writers, the theme is currently catching the viewers’ attention.
