Dhanush in 'Pudhupettai'. (X)
Dhanush’s Pudhupettai (2006) has a cult status among film lovers. The movie features Dhanush as Kokki Kumar, a student from North Chennai who ends up as a gangster.
The Tamil film casts Sonia Aggarwal and Sneha as the female leads.
After its release, Pudupettai did not meet the expectations of trade pundits at the box office. However, it has a huge fanfare.
The soundtrack from the movie, composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, was well-received.
Pudupettai was directed by Selvaraghavan, brother of Dhanush.
Selvaraghavan also acted in films like Beast, Saani Kaayidham (both released in 2022), and Bakasuran (2023).
The filmmaker took to X on Wednesday, 7 February to make an interesting announcement. His post read: “Hopefully Pudhupettai 2 should happen this year.”
However, other details of the new project weren’t announced. It’s also not clear if Dhanush will be there in the second part of the movie.
Meanwhile, Selvaraghavan’s post piqued the interest of movie buffs and Dhanush’s fans. They recalled their favourite scenes and songs from Pedhupettai.
Selvaraghavan’s previous directorial was Naane Varuven (2022), starring Dhanush. It was not a commercial hit.
