Soon after her graduation in international relations from the University of Westminster in London, Bengaluru-based Tanya Hope took up modelling as a career.

It eventually led her to movies, and she has hogged the limelight in the South Indian film industries since then.

The model-turned-actor is now doing a cameo in Real Star Upendra and Abhinaya Chakravarthy Kiccha Sudeep’s forthcoming flick Kabzaa.

In a freewheeling chat with South First, Tanya talked about her journey and her upcoming projects like Kabzaa (scheduled for release on 17 March) and Weapon.

“To be honest, I was not sure about my prospects after completing my graduation. That’s when my mother, who aspired to do modelling but could not for some reason, pushed me to fulfil her unfilled dream,” she recalled.

From modelling to acting

Tanya did her best as a model and became Femina Miss India Kolkata in 2015. She was also one of the five finalists that year.

“Soon after the beauty pageant, I auditioned for a few films through agencies and landed an interesting role in Appatlo Okadundevadu in 2016,” she said.

Starring Nara Rohit, Sree Vishnu, and Satya Dev, the movie was directed by Saagar K Chandra. It got a critical response and Tanya received applause for her work.

Since then, the actor appeared in several Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada movies.

“I started enjoying the process of filmmaking. I always follow a simple strategy at work: have no strategies,” Tanya Hope said with a wide smile.

She now speaks Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu to some extent. “I make sure to understand dialogues and learn them thoroughly to portray necessary emotions.”

The Kabzaa experience

Asked about her Kabzaa stint, Tanya Hope quipped that dancing with her favourite actor-director Upendra was a nice experience.

“Though a star, Upendra sir is kind and so easy to work with. It’s a learning experience and fun, too. Further, I liked the song ‘Chumu Chumu Chali Chali’ so much. I’m sure you will enjoy it, too,” she said.

The actor shared that she was initially intimidated by the presence of senior actors like Upendra, Kiccha Sudeep, and Shriya Saran.

“But they were all welcoming and down-to-earth personalities in both reel and real life.”

Tanya’s upcoming projects

Of the many films lined up for release in the calendar year, Tanya Hope will be seen in Golmaal, a Tamil venture featuring Jiiva, Shiva, and Payal Rajput.

“It is a family-comedy entertainer where I play a regular girl-next-door character.”

Directed by Pon Kumaran and produced under the banner of Jaguar Studios, Golmaal is likely to be released in May. It also casts Kannada actor Sadhu Kokila in a key role.

In Kick, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual comedy flick, she is paired opposite Santhanam. It is helmed by director Prashant Raj.

Weapon is an action thriller where Tanya Hope essays the role of a journalist.

Weapon will mostly be a pan-India film. It is an exciting project and I’m having fun working alongside Sathyaraj sir and Vasanth Ravi,” the actor noted.

In a yet-to-be-titled Tamil movie starring Vaibhav, she plays a cop.

Even as she awaits the launch of her next Kannada film, Bell Bottom, the actor is all set to foray into the world of web series with a Tamil venture.

“It is not yet titled and will be a crime-based series that I’m eagerly looking forward to.”

With back-to-back projects in her kitty, Tanya Hope is currently busy shooting and promoting them.

“Nowadays, I hardly have time to spend with my family. Even if I take a break for a day or two, I go for horse riding, my favourite hobby,” she signed off.
