Vishnu Govindan Jigarthanda Double X

Malayalam actor Vishnu Govindan has joined the cast of Jigarthanda Double X, directed by Karthik Subburaj.

Nimisha Sajayan of The Great Indian Kitchen fame is the leading lady opposite Raghava Lawrence. SJ Suryah is playing the antagonist.

According to the director, the film is only a “spiritual sequel” and no characters from the prequel will be there in it.

Jigarthanda won Bobby Simha the National Award in the Best Supporting Actor category and Vivek Harshan in the Best Editor award category. The film was remade in Hindi as Bachchan Pandey with Akshay Kumar.

Meanwhile, like the prequel, Jigarthanda Double X will be set against a Madurai backdrop.

Vishnu Govindan is also a director himself and did The History of Joy. Born in Chennai, he worked in various South film industries.

In Malayalam, he is popular for his comedy roles. Vishnu acted in R Madhvan’s film Maara which was dubbed in Telugu and Hindi too.

Vishnu also appeared in Attention Please, a psychotic thriller. It caught the attention of Karthik who wanted to remake it.

However, Karthik decided not to remake and instead released it on Netflix with subtitles. Attention Please marked Karthik Subbaraj’s first Malayalam production.

Varisu trailer on 4 January

The trailer of Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu will be released on 4 January.

As per reports, the movie has been certified ‘U’ and will have a runtime of 2 hours and 49 minutes.

Thunivu promotions create record

Ajith’s Thunivu promotions in Malaysia seem to have created a record for a Tamil and an Indian film.

It was the first time that an Indian film got a 360-degree LED display for a building façade in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

Lyca Productions, which acquired the overseas distribution rights of Thunivu, tweeted about this achievement. Singapore-Malaysia distributor Malik Streams Corporation too joined the celebrations.

The Ajith-starrer has been given a U/A certificate with a runtime of 2 hours and 23 minutes. The censor certificate shows that the film has 13 cuts (mostly cuss words).

Zee and producer Boney Kapoor claimed that the trailer got 35 million views. However, Ajith’s fans are disappointed since Boney Kapoor has not revealed the release date of Thunivu yet. However, advance booking has started in parts of the US and in France.
