Chennai floods

Super cyclone Michaung, which battered Chennai and left it gasping for breath, spared no one. Several Kollywood celebrities were among those whose homes were badly affected by the Chennai floods.

Actor Kasturi Shankar took to the social media platform X to express her ire against the government.

Kasturi posted three pictures and wrote” “Poes garden. Pic1: yesterday Pic2 : now. Pic3: My home with an indoor pool 1 km away, CIT colony. *NO* water. Any guesses why?”

Annoyed by the claims of the government that it had efficiently handled the crisis, the Kollywood actor also added, “PR exercise of this government stinks more than the stagnant water. #ChennaiFloods”.

‘Chennai floods every year!’

Music director Santhosh Narayanan, who was busy helping those affected by floods in his part of the city, took to X to lambast the mismanagement of Chennai floods by the local administration.

He recalled that residents in his area in Chennai had, for over 10 continuous years, experienced flooding every year.

The Kollywood music director also pointed out that the flooding would continue for weeks and that there would be power cuts for at least 100 hours in the locality.

He wrote: “This year is setting new benchmarks already. Funnily enough, it is neither historically a lake nor a ‘low-lying’ area. We have loads of open land and more active ponds than any other area in Chennai, suitably named Kolapakkam.”

“Just pure negligence, mismanagement and greed have led to the extreme dumping of rainwater and sewage into just one irrigation canal that swells like a river every single time and has really hit our residents. Any ailment or medical emergency during these times is proving fatal.”

Stating that he was doing his best to reach out to people and support them with generator backup to fill overhead tanks and help with rescue and other critical needs, Santhosh Narayanan said he had kept a boat and several pumps permanently on stand-by for the rescue operation.

“Kudos to the spirit of the people of Chennai, there is so much resilience and positivity wherever I go. I hope there is an effort to a solution, don’t have unreasonable expectations, but things can be a lot different than it is now. I really hope all of you who are affected are back to normalcy at the earliest. 🤗 #ChennaiFloods,” he added.
