Producer KR offers buy one get one ticket free offer

Those choosing to watch director Ravi Murukaiya’s upcoming film Aayiram Porkaasukal on its opening day will be in for a pleasant surprise.

For every ticket you purchase on the opening day, you will get one ticket free!

The man who introduced the buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer in Tamil cinema is veteran producer KR, also the presenter of Aayiram Porkaasukal.

The comedy entertainer features Vidharth, Saravanan, and Arundhathi Nair in the lead.

This is not the first time that KR, a successful film producer-director-distributor-theatre owner, tried to introduce something new in the Tamil film industry. He continuously backed many innovative projects in Indian cinema.

A pioneer

KR has been instrumental in the success of various groundbreaking films like My Dear Kuttichathan (1984), India’s first 3D film and a massive blockbuster.

He followed it up with Spy Kids (a super hit 3D film for children made in Anaglif technology), Kamal Haasan-starrer Pesum Padam in 1987 (a movie without dialogues), and Dancer (that showcased the talent of the differently-abled).

Now, KR announced a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer for those who would like to watch the first-day-first-show of the lively comedy movie.

Sources say the distributor will bear the cost of the free ticket.

Aayiram Porkaasukal will be released in theatres across Tamil Nadu on 22 December through Red Giant Shenbagamoorthy.

Emphasis on small films

KR says, “The first-day-first-show opening of a film determines its fate. While big films made huge collections, small-budget films suffered last year despite having good stories. One of the reasons for this is that more films are released in a week.”

He noted, “Some people say small-budget films should not be made. But this is not the solution to the problem. We have to do something innovative to attract the audience to the theatres. I have introduced this scheme as a solution to this issue.”

KR emphasises that more low-budget films should be made in Tamil. A staunch believer in this ideology, he says, “There are no big-budget films if low-budget films don’t exist.”

The distributor adds, “It is nice to see big films coming and emerging as big hits, but the film industry will only remain healthy if low-budget films are successful. Today’s big actors and technicians started their journey with small films. Therefore, films made with smaller budgets are essential.”
