CinemaSnippets: Arvind Swami, Santhanam join AK62 team

Arvind Swami and Santhanam are said to have come on board for AK62, said a source close to the director. Earlier, Aravind Swami and Ajith worked in Paasamalargal (1994).

Being directed by Vignesh R Shivan, AK62 will feature Arvind Swami in a challenging role with many layers. However, Santhanam will not be seen in a comic one but will get to portray different shades, the source added.

Santhanam is currently working in Venkat Prabhu’s upcoming film Custody where Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya is playing the lead. The movie is scheduled for release on 12 May.

Produced by Lyca Productions, AK62 is likely to feature Trisha as the female lead.

Samantha dubs for Shaakuntalam

The news of Samantha starting the dubbing for Shakunthalam and her Instagram post have brought joy to the fans. The film is set for release on 17 February.

She had taken a break from work and now the news that she is back to work has cheered the fans. Singer Chinmayi was the one who used to dub for her.

She welcomed New Year on Instagram with a selfie and wrote, “Function forward…Control what we can!! Guess it’s time for newer and easier resolutions.. ones that are kinder and gentler on ourselves. God bless Happy 2023!!”

Sources close to the actor said that her being replaced in the web series Citadel is false and one can expect working stills from the project after Sankranthi.

Directed by Gunasekar and produced by Dil Raju, Allu Arha, daughter of Telugu superstar Allu Arjun, makes her debut in the film. Malayalam actor Dev plays Dushyanth.

Book on Jai Bhim screenplay

At the inauguration of the Chennai Book Fair on 6 January, Suriya’s 2D Entertainment announced that the screenplay of Jai Bhim along with dialogues and interviews with the technicians would be available in a book format at the event.

Directed by T Gananvel, Jai Bhim dealt with a true case of custodial death that was handled by Justice Chandru.

Presenting the Iyal Selvam Award to director Gananvel at the book fair, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that the movie impacted him most as he had experienced custodial torture. He added that he could not sleep for a couple of days due to the scenes in Jai Bhim.

Meanwhile, Sudha Kongara will be working again with Suriya after completing the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru with Akshay Kumar.

In the remake, Radhika Madan is seen in Aparna Balamurali’s role. An official confirmation from 2D Entertainment is expected soon.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say that the Suriya42 with director Siva did a pre-release business of over ₹100 crore!
