Anupama Parameswaran on going 'bold' in 'Tillu Square'

Born in Kerala, Anupama Parameswaran has predominantly played conservative girl-next-door roles in her career. Her appearance on the screen has been very formal with a touch of glamour.

When it comes to on-screen intimacy and kiss scenes, she has distanced herself away from it, both in her native Malayalam industry and Telugu cinema for the last 10 years.

But the actor seems to have changed the norms. Anupama Parameswaran surprised everyone by doing some intimate and steamy romance with her co-star Siddu Jonnalagadda in the upcoming romantic comedy Tillu Square.

During the Tillu Square press meet in Hyderabad on Monday, 18 March, Anupama said she is playing the role of Lilly in the movie.

“This is one of the most special characters I have done so far in my career. For the past three years, I have been experimenting with the characters. As an actor, I could not explore a few characters because of my limitations and the circle I was put into,” the young actor said.

She hastened to add: “Later, I got bored doing girl-next-door characters over and over again. During the lockdown, I started exploring world cinema and thought of changing my game plan in choosing scripts.”

‘Need variety in life’

During the press meet, a few media personnel wondered why she turned “bold” in Tillu Square.

In response to the query, Anupama said, “We don’t eat biryani every day and enjoy different dishes occasionally to avoid monotony. Similarly, we, as actors, shouldn’t limit ourselves to the same type of roles. Variety keeps things interesting and prevents boredom.”

Anupama Parameswaran also declared that she would be stupid had she turned down a character like Lily from Tillu Square.

She expressed that commercial films rarely offer such well-defined heroine roles.

As the mic passed to Siddu Jonnalagadda, Anupama and Siddu exchanged chuckles.

In the end, Siddu jocularly quipped, “There is no chance that Anupama would commit a beginner’s mistake. I may do it, but she won’t commit such silly mistakes. She came with perfect planning.”

Tillu Square features Starboy Siddu Jonnalagadda in the titular role, while Anupama plays an event coordinator role named Lilly.

It is scheduled to hit the theatres on 29 March worldwide.

Mallik Ram is the director. Siddu Jonnalagadda co-wrote the screenplay and dialogues.

Suryadevara Naga Vamsi produced the movie under Sithara Entertainments.
