Do you remember the film Anjaam (1994) starring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit?
This psychological thriller that came three decades ago narrates the story of a wealthy industrialist named Vijay Agnihotri who gets obsessed with Shivani Chopra (played by Madhuri Dixit).
Now, social media users are drawing comparisons between Anjaam and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest box office film Animal.
Anjaam, which was released three decades ago, has violence as much as Animal has in it, claimed a few Ranbir Kapoor fans.
In Anjaam, Shah Rukh turns a psychopath after the girl rejects his marriage proposal.
The sympathisers of Ranbir Animal and Shah Rukh Khan’s fans are indulging in heated debates by comparing the two films in terms of portrayal of violence, romance, and explicit content.
Some of Ranbir Kapoor’s fans on social media are seriously engaged in a war of words.
However, a few netizens found fault with the makers of Animal for relying on controversial elements (like violence and explicit language) to generate revenue.
Shah Rukh Khan fans pointed out that a Wikipedia entry of Anjaam indicates that it had more violent content than Animal.
The post describes Anjaam as a movie centred around a woman confronting her obsessive lover and highlighting the mistreatment of women, with Madhuri Dixit in the lead role and Shah Rukh Khan as the antagonist.

Yes, in #Anjaam, there was no effort to justify or glorify his character. On the contrary,#Bajigar was disturbing in the sense that his criminal acts were justified as Family revenge. Still I will say #KabirSingh & now #Animal are out & our glorifying violence against women.

Comparing Animal with movies like Darr, Anjaam, Joker or other problematic polarising character based movies is just not right. While the theme of each of those movies are not only different, the moto of making such movies is different as well.
