After delivering a critically-acclaimed hit in the form of Bimbisara, Kalyanram has come up with an interesting movie this week: Amigos.

He has done a triple role in this suspense thriller. Owing to its pre-release buzz, the movie generated quite a lot of curiosity among Telugu-movie lovers.

Read on to know whether the actor succeeds in living up to the expectations of his fans.

A story of doppelgangers

Siddarth (Kalyanram) is a successful businessman who looks after his family business. He falls in love with Ishika (Ashika Ranganath), an RJ.

Meanwhile, he chances upon a software engineer Manjunath (Kalyanram) and notorious criminal Bipin Roy alias Michael (Kalyanram), who look exactly like him.

While the meeting with the lookalikes surprises Siddu and Manjunath to no end, it also lands them in a huge problem.

What problems do these lookalikes face after their encounter? How will they come out of it? Are the three related in any way? These form the important elements in this Kalyanram-starrer.

Good story but dull screenplay

Debutant director Rajendra Reddy needs to be praised for coming up with an interesting and challenging story.

Though we have seen many Telugu movies where the lead actor appeared in double or triple roles, Amigos is definitely different from them.

It is tough to handle three roles with variations, but the director has managed it with ease.

However, he should have worked more on the screenplay, because the movie appears to lag in many scenes and audiences easily predict the next scene or twist.

A gripping screenplay would have taken a suspense thriller like this to the next level.

Kudos to Kalyanram

As Kalyanram plays three roles, he appears on the screen for almost 90 percent of the runtime.

Amigos is an out-and-out Kalyanram movie. He deserves praise for handling the three roles with ease and showing the variations effectively.

However, among all the three roles, his performance as Bipin Roy alias Michael stands out.

As the actor himself plays both the protagonist and the antagonist, there is not much space for other actors.

Ashika Ranganath is confined to just romance, and even her role is limited.

Brahmaji, Saptagiri, and Jayaprakash appear in supporting roles and play their part well.

Technical finesse elevates thrills

Music director Ghibran He has done an impressive job at composing the background score.

The remaking of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s evergreen hit song “Enno rathrulostayi gani” will be enjoyed by movie lovers of the current generation. It’s been shot beautifully.

Cinematographer Soundararajan has done a commendable job. The action sequences are engaging.

However, the editing could have been much sharper.

Final take

Amigos is an out-and-out Kalyanram film depicting the interesting concept of doppelgangers in Tollywood style. Keep aside your expectations and watch it.
