C/o Kancherapalem director Venkatesh Maha, known for garnering praise from both film critics and the general audience, has once again found himself in the midst of controversy.

He was trolled mercilessly on social media for expressing strong opinions against the pan-Indian blockbuster film KGF (2022).

And now, his latest tweet seems to have rubbed the fans of Rebel Star Prabhas the wrong way. Venkatesh Maha eventually had to delete his X (formerly Twitter) account after facing backlash from Prabhas fans, who criticised him for posting a positive tweet about Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki when the entire South India was vouching for Salaar.

Dunki, directed by one of India’s most renowned directors Rajkumar Hirani, was released on Thursday, 21 December.

Additionally, the dynamic duo of Prashanth Neel and Prabhas is bringing Salaar to the theatres on 22 December. The global competition between these two films has sparked a massive interest at the box office.

As there has been apparent friction between the makers and the fans of Salaar and Dunki alike ahead of the release of the two major films, director Venkatesh Maha’s tweet caused discomfort among Prabhas fans on social media.

His tweet read: “Dunki movie is ready for release. Waiting to see the first show on the first day. My favourite actor Shah Rukh Khan and my favourite director Rajkumar Hirani are coming together.”

He further wrote, “However, what brought me even greater joy was the unofficial standing ovation during the Censor Board screening of Dunki. If this is true, I believe this movie will evoke emotions among the audience.”

This tweet angered Prabhas fans, who trolled Venkatesh Maha and questioned his focus on Dunki instead of Salaar.
