Hyderabad, 6 July: The uneven footpath at Kompally poses a risk to pedestrians, especially the elderly. Food stalls on the walkway add to the chaos.

Synopsis: Pedestrians, perhaps the largest unorganised section of citizens, are deprived of footpaths — pavements to walk safely and with dignity. The Supreme Court has now asserted that the right to walk on safe, demarcated footpaths is a fundamental right under the rights to free movement and life. But are the footpaths in your city available for pedestrians?

This footpath seems largely unhindered and clear, but for the elderly, this stretch poses a major threat.

The uneven surface with out-of-place slabs affect the balance and stability, and may cause sprains or even limb-breaking falls. The food stall, which has encroached on the footpath near Medplus  Diagnostics in Hyderabad’s Kompally, attracts stray dogs, adding to the risk.
