Synopsis: Rahul Gandhi strongly condemned Saturday’s violence unleashed on peaceful protesters and said the bullies were RSS men. He further likened them to Prime Minister Modi, adding that the people of India will not surrender to violence.
Coming down heavily on alleged Sangh Parivar elements who assaulted unarmed protesters on Saturday, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday, 12 October, wondered where they were when the INDIA bloc took its Delhi Chalo rally.
The senior Congress leader made the comment while thanking “the millions of people” who supported the march from the Constitution Club to the Supreme Court. The march was organised to push for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, for the alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across India.
Gandhi stated in a message on X that the people of India could not be cowed down by bullying. “Today was a very important day because we needed to show the government that the people of India are not going to be intimidated. You cannot beat us, threaten us, frighten us. We will not accept being bullied,” he said.
He then wondered where the bullies were during the INDIA bloc march. “I was wondering where the cowards of the RSS who were beating the young children the day before yesterday were. Where were those people? Because I didn’t see them,” he said.
The Congress leader further taunted the baton-wielding men, who were seen assaulting protesters on Saturday.
“When we are standing there and when the people of India are standing there, why don’t you come out? Why don’t you wear your little scarves and come out and see what happens?”
He then trained his guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Because you’re essentially, like the Prime Minister of India, bullies. You cannot stand up. You can only use power to fight,” Gandhi said.
The Opposition leader reiterated that there were no parallel protests. “It’s one protest, and it’s a protest where everybody is standing together. Every single person is going to stand against these killers of our Constitution, these killers of our democracy. And we’re not going to back down,” Gandhi said.
“I’d like to thank every single person who came out today for this protest. I’d also like to thank the millions of people who showed support in their own way at 3 pm. Thank you to the leaders of the INDIA bloc, all the workers of the Congress party and the workers of the INDIA bloc,” he said in the post.
