Synopsis: “You are saying that protesters have been hit by pellet guns. I want to explain when were pellet guns fired. My brother was struck by a pellet gun when he was peacefully protesting with a tricolour in hand,” Rahul Gandhi said, showing the media the injuries caused to the protestor, identified as Sahil.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday, 24 July, addressed the media, along with a student protestor who had allegedly been hit by pellet guns during the 20 July Sansad Chalo March.

“You are saying that protesters have been hit by pellet guns. I want to explain when were pellet guns fired. My brother was struck by a pellet gun when he was peacefully protesting with a tricolour in hand,” Rahul Gandhi said, showing the media the injuries caused to the protestor, identified as Sahil.

He further questioned the government’s claims of not using pellet guns.

Rahul Gandhi further said that due to the pellets attack, the victim’s eye also has been damaged, and it is unsure if it can be saved or not.

“He can’t see from one eye now. He is the future of India. It’s not just him, thousands like him were hit, attacked by pellet guns, by lathis,” the LoP claimed, adding, “And what were they doing? protesting peacefully.”

Rahul Gandhi also noted that Sahil was participating in the protest as the paper for exam he was preparing for, police recruitment, also had leaked.

Demand for Education Minister’s resignation

Training guns at the Modi government, Rahul Gandhi put forward three demands, “Firstly, the Education Minister, because of whom the students are protesting and paper leaks happened, must be sacked. Secondly, action must be taken against those who have fired at our future and beat them with lathis. Thirdly, Narendra Modi, who is the operator of the system, should apologise to thousands of students like him.”

“Stop hitting and threatening our students, and fullfil our demands,” Rahul Gandhi reiterated.

Answering a question of the reporter, Rahul Gandhi said, “We are reiterating the student’s demands. Dharmendra Pradhan is a criminal education minister, he is the symbol of the collapse of our education system.”

Referring to the student protestor, the MP said, “Pradhan is the reason my brother is shot. He is the reason thousands of people are outside. He has to go.”

At the end of the press briefing, Sahil said, “I am only demanding for justice. Inquilab Zindabad.”
