Ex-Madurai Deputy Mayor questioned over alleged Rs 30-crore bid to topple Vijay government
Musthafa had also referred to the case against former DMK minister V Senthil Balaji, alleging that AIADMK members were now attempting to poach TVK legislators.
Madurai City Central Crime Branch police have taken former Madurai Deputy Mayor and AIADMK functionary PM Mannan for questioning over allegations that he attempted to lure Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA Musthafa with a Rs 30-crore offer to destabilise the government led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
The controversy erupted after Musthafa, the TVK MLA representing the Madurai Central Assembly constituency, told reporters at Madurai airport on Wednesday that he had been approached with an offer of Rs 30 crore to help bring down the Vijay-led government.
“I have informed the party leadership about this,” Musthafa had said.
“Even if they offer ₹100 crore, TVK MLAs will not switch sides,” he asserted.
Musthafa had also referred to the case against former DMK minister V Senthil Balaji, alleging that AIADMK members were now attempting to poach TVK legislators.
He subsequently filed a complaint with the Madurai City Central Crime Branch police.
Following the complaint, the police took PM Mannan, who recently joined the AIADMK, for questioning. The MLA’s allegation has triggered a major political controversy.
Police are investigating Mannan’s alleged role in approaching the TVK MLA with the purported offer. According to police sources, the investigation is based on evidence that Musthafa claimed to possess regarding the alleged attempt to strike a deal with him. The police are examining the material provided by the MLA to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offer and Mannan’s possible role in the episode.
Further details regarding the questioning and the outcome of the investigation are awaited.
