Synopsis: The Supreme Court refused urgent hearing in a plea against the police crackdown on CJP protesters. Earlier, the Delhi HC also declined immediate listing of two pleas concerning the police action against the protesters.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday, 22 July, refused the urgent listing of a plea against the violent police action against students and youth during a Parliament march called by the CJP, while calling it a ‘waste of time’, reported LiveLaw.
“Don’t waste our time, and don’t waste your time,” Chief Justice of India Surya Kant told the lawyer who brought up the matter.
The lawyer informed the court that “brutal” action was taken by the police, including tear gas firing and pointed out that there were visuals to substantiate the claims. However, the court showed no interest in checking the visuals.
“We are not interested in videos; we don’t have time to watch,” the court said.
When the lawyer pressed on, stating that the students are raising important demands, including the free and fair conduct of the NEET exams and the dissolution of NTA, the CJI cut him short and said, “Thank you.”
Notably, the CJP was founded as a satirical online platform in response to CJI Surya Kant’s “cockroaches” remark about the country’s youth during a court hearing in May.

The SC remarks came a day after the Delhi High Court refused urgent hearing in a similar plea while stating it doesn’t want to be “dragged” into the matter.
“Don’t drag the court into all this,” a bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia said while posting the matter for hearing on Wednesday.
The Delhi HC had earlier refused the urgent listing of a plea challenging the forcible removal of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site at Jantar Mantar, where he was staging a hunger strike in solidarity with the students and youth protesting the NEET-UG paper leak, days before the Parliament march.
