An unusual and highly emotional post on social media by senior Andhra Pradesh IPS officer PV Sunil Kumar is a hot topic of discussion in the corridors of the Velagapudi secretariat.
The reason? The 1993 batch officer, who now heads the state CID, was promoted to the rank of DGP a few days ago.
In his post, he not only thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy profusely for promoting him, but also recalled how he was made to run from pillar to post by his then bosses when he was promoted as IG back in 2018. The promotion came, he said, only when he threatened to file a case over denial of promotion.
This time, he said, the promotion was granted despite him not having met the chief minister for a long while, or having petitioned him for the same. Yet, Jagan remembered and gave him a promotion, Sunil Kumar said.
Sunil Kumar is an important IPS officer in the Jagan government. State CID is handling many high profile cases, including the Amaravati land scam allegedly involving TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the inner ring road scam, the SSC question paper leakage scam, the skill development scam, and the fibre grid scam, among others.
