Synopsis: Former YSR Congress Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy has announced plans to launch a new political party in Andhra Pradesh, more than a year after he quit the YSRCP and resigned from the Rajya Sabha. Former YSR Congress Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy has announced that he would launch a new political party in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to the media during a visit to Tirumala on Wednesday, 19 August, Reddy said he wanted “to mark the beginning of a new era of politics” in the state by forming a party that would give ordinary citizens a stronger voice in Parliament and the State Assembly.

He said he would discuss his roadmap at a press conference in Vijayawada later this month.

The announcement marks Reddy’s return to active politics after he quit the YSRCP and resigned from Parliament in early 2025.

A former close aide of YSR family

A chartered accountant by training, Reddy had close relations with the family of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy even before the latter entered politics.

Reddy never contested a general election and served as a Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh from 2016 until his resignation.

Once considered the second-in-command in the YSRCP, he distanced himself from Jagan Mohan Reddy and the party and announced his exit from active politics last year while under the Enforcement Directorate’s scanner in the Kakinada Port case and under investigation by the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department’s Special Investigation Team in the alleged liquor scam during the YSRCP regime.

South First had earlier reported on Reddy’s plans to formally join the BJP and lobby for a gubernatorial position while allowing his Rajya Sabha seat to go to the NDA in Andhra Pradesh.
