The CBI, which is probing the case related to the murder of former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy in Kadapa in March 2019, filed its third supplementary charge sheet in the special court for CBI cases in Hyderabad on Friday, 29 June — a day before the 30 June deadline set by the Supreme Court to complete the probe concluded.

Since the deadline has now concluded, the CBI is likely to seek more time to complete the investigation into the case, which rocked Andhra Pradesh before the general elections in 2019.

As the petition filed by Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Suneetha Reddy opposing the anticipatory bail granted to YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy would come up for hearing in the Supreme Court on 3 July, the CBI is expected to seek more time to complete the investigation from the court on the same day.

Recent developments

In a related development, the CBI produced half a dozen people, including Avinash Reddy’s father YS Bhaskar Reddy, before the court, following the completion of their judicial remand.

The key accused — Yerra Gangi Reddy, Shivashankar Reddy, Sunil Yadav, Umashankar Reddy, and Uday Kumar Reddy — were among the six produced before the court, which extended their judicial remand for 14 days and adjourned the case to 14 July.

The accused were later lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail.

On 16 June, the court had extended the judicial remand of the six accused arrested in connection with the case till 30 June. On 15 June, Avinash Reddy called on his father at Chanchalguda Central Jail and enquired about his health.

The CBI arrested Bhaskar Reddy on 16 April in Kadapa following his alleged role in Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case and since then, he has been lodged in prison. The premier investigating agency also arrested Avinash Reddy recently in the same case but released him on anticipatory bail.
