Visakhapatnam police heroically rescue MP MVV's wife, son and auditor, 3 accused absconding

The Visakhapatnam City Police on Thursday, 15 June, rescued the local Lok Sabha representative MVV Satyanarayana’s wife, son, and auditor — who were being held captive in their house for two days — within five hours of the MP lodging a complaint of their possible abduction.

The police also arrested three persons in connection with the abduction. As per local reports, the MP was in Hyderabad when the incident occurred.

The abduction

Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Trivikram Varma said on Thursday: “Today at 8 am the MP alerted us about the kidnapping of his auditor Gannamani Venkateswara Rao alias GV. He told us that his auditor was not responding to his calls for the last two days.”

He continued: “We then managed to get the auditor on the phone, who told us that he was in Srikakulam, but the cell signals were indicating that he was in Visakhapatnam, which confirmed our suspicions that he had been abducted.”

The police commissioner said that they came to know later that a few persons forced their way into the residence of the MP and threatened his son Sarat Chandra on 13 June. They also injured him when he tried to resist.

Then, using his phone, they had the auditor come to their house.

Later the accused — one Kola Hemanth Kumar and others — kept Sarat, his mother, and the auditor captive in MP’s residence. They had relieved the MP’s wife of her gold jewellery and cash from the auditor.

The accused reportedly tried to shift the trio in a vehicle, but the police by then had begun tracking the accused as well as the victims.

The kidnappers were moving in a vehicle continuously, the police commissioner said.

Police chase and arrest

“Around 10-10:30 am, we came to know that a ransom of ₹1 crore was paid, which confirmed our suspicion. So more teams were formed and checkposts were put on alert,” Visakhapatnam Police PRO Krishna Varma said.

He added that the MP later informed them that his son and wife Jyoti had also been abducted.

After determining the vehicle number and other details, the cops alerted checkposts not just in Visakhapatnam but in the neighbouring districts as well.

“At 12:30 pm, their vehicle was speeding from Rishikodna to S Kota. So two of our vehicles started chasing it,” said the PRO.

“As it was a narrow road, the vehicles surrounded the car of the accused from the front and the rear. The accused hit the front vehicle and tried to escape, but couldn’t,” he explained.

“We came to know that a total of six accused are involved. Two have been arrested now and one (Rajesh) was apprehended earlier. We are trying to identify the remaining three accused,” Varma told South First.

The commissioner of police said that the accused had abducted the family of the MP and his auditor only for money. He ruled out a land dispute as the motive behind the commission of the crime.
