Uttarakhand Police on Saturday, 11 July, arrested Somayajula Sri Charan in connection with the suspicious death of his wife, Vizag native Parupudi Radha Gayatri, at a homestay in Mussoorie in June.
He was taken into custody in New Delhi after a Judicial Magistrate in Mussoorie issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
The accused was produced before a court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody at the District Jail in Sudhowala. Police said the arrest followed further evidence gathered during the investigation.
The case pertains to the death of Gayatri, 27, a native of Visakhapatnam, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances on 15 June at Kiyana Homestay in Tipridhar, Mussoorie, where the couple had been staying during a trip to Uttarakhand.
Based on a complaint lodged by her family, Mussoorie Police registered a FIR against Charan. The investigation is ongoing.
Gayatri, who worked as an account manager in Gurugram, married Charan, a Pune-based software engineer, on 8 November 2025.
In the months preceding her death, she lived in Delhi with her husband’s parents, who are Central government employees, while he was based in Pune.
According to police, the couple travelled from Delhi to Rishikesh on 13 June and proceeded to Mussoorie the following day.
Charan told police that they consumed alcohol through the night and went to sleep at around 3.30 am at the homestay. He claimed that when he woke up, he found his wife unresponsive, naked, lying in a puddle of urine, and bleeding from her nose.
Members of Gayatri’s family have alleged that she was subjected to sustained harassment by her husband during their marriage. Friends and former colleagues also alleged that she had been under severe mental stress throughout the marriage.
