Synopsis: Lokesh proposed, “Today, from this sacred Mahanadu stage, I propose that in the 2029 elections, TDP should allocate 33 percent seats to women, not as slogan but as commitment to the future of India. We want more women lawmakers, more women leaders, more women policy makers. Future of TDP will be led shoulder to shoulder by our women. This is our resolve, our responsibility and our commitment.”
TDP working president Nara Lokesh speaking at the Mahanadu event in Amaravathi, on Wednesday, 27 May, proposed 33 percent reservation for women in 2029 election irrespective of women’s quota bill.
Making the proposal, Lokesh said, “Many parties talk about women empowerment during elections, but forget soon after. However, TDP, since our inception, always believed in the power of women. We always supported their aspirations and dreams, we stood by them and believe that they have greater role to play in Indian political discourse.”
“Therefore I propose we lead from the front. Today, from this sacred Mahanadu stage, I propose that in the 2029 elections, TDP should allocate 33 percent seats to women, not as slogan but as commitment to the future of India. We want more women lawmakers, more women leaders, more women policy makers. Future of TDP will be led shoulder to shoulder by our women. This is our resolve, our responsibility and our commitment.”
“I strongly believe that the next era of Indian politics belongs to women leadership. NDA took the historic step by bringing the women’s reservation bill. Our vision is clear, women must not remain beneficiaries alone, women must become decision makers,” he added.

Speaking of the time the Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced in Parliament, Lokesh criticised the opposition parties for obstructing it.
Training the guns at the Opposition parties, Nara Lokesh said, “Earlier, with the support of the central government and all the parties in NDA Women’s Reservation Bill and Delimitation bill was introduced in the Parliament. As we believe in women empowerment, we have given our full support to the bill, but the opposition tried to stop it.”
Emphasising on one of the principles of TDP, Stree Shakti, Nara Lokesh, criticised the misogynistic language used by certain people such as “did you wear bangles, or did you wear a saree.” He further urged the leaders and party members attending the event to put a full stop to such language.
Further speaking of the changes brought in, Lokesh said, “Earlier in school textbooks, images showing household works were done by women, but now we have changed it to represent that 50 percent works are done by men, and other 50 percent works are done by women,” and added that, “I believe change begins from home, from our schools.”
