TDP leader Nara Lokesh brandishes the Red Book.

TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh on Sunday, 11 February, launched a scathing attack on the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh, while also making poll promises.

He was speaking during the launch of the Sankharavam campaign at Ichchapuram in the Srikakulam district of the state.

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections are about two months away, expected to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections.

Murder allegations

Speaking at the launch of the campaign, Lokesh accused Chief Minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of turning the Uttarandhra region — the northern part of the state — into a hub of ganja-peddling.

He also accused Jagan of deceiving the youth of Andhra Pradesh by not releasing the District Selection Committee (DSC) notification even once in his tenure as chief minister.

He also levelled allegations of Dalit and Backward Classes (BC) communities in the state being subjected to atrocities.

Lokesh asked, “Is Jagan ready to kill more BC children like Amarnath? Is he getting ready to kill more Dalits like he killed Dr Sudhakar? Is Jagan’s YSRCP on a quest to kill more members of the minorities like they killed the girl named Misbah?”

Amarnath was a 15-year-old boy killed allegedly by five people in the Bapatla district of Andhra Pradesh in June last year.

Dr Sudhakar was an anaesthetist who died of cardiac arrest in 2021. TDP chief and Lokesh’s father N Chandrababu Naidu called it a “political murder” at that time.

A year earlier, the doctor had accused the YSRCP government of not adequately equipping medical professionals who were treating Covid-19 patients.

Misbah Fathima was a Class X student in a private school in the Chittoor district who died by suicide in March 2022.

The class topper left behind a four-page suicide note, in which she claimed that the school administration mistreated her and even removed her from the school at the behest of a classmate who could not measure up to her.

The matter turned political amid allegations that a relative of this student was a local influential leader.

Meanwhile, Lokesh also said: “Jagan killed his own uncle. Is he ready to kill more family members now?”

The insinuation was towards the murder of Jagan’s uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy, popularly known as Viveka, who was found dead at his residence in the Kadapa district in 2019. Avinash Reddy, a YSRCP MP and another of Viveka’s nephews, is an accused in the case.

TDP’s ‘Super Six Guarantees’

At the Sankaravam campaign launch, Lokesh also slammed what he claimed was an oppressive culture of weaponising the police force by the YSRCP leaders and ministers.

He said that the Jagan government had illegally imprisoned Chandrababu Naidu for 53 days. “Several cases have been filed against TDP activists in the last 4 years and 10 months. The officials and YSRCP leaders who deliberately troubled the TDP leaders, their names have been codified in the Red Book,” he said, displaying this Red Book.

He also assured the implementation of the “Super Six” promises from the “Babu Surety – Bhavishyathuku Guarantee”, released in May last year.

These are free bus travel for all women, three free gas cylinders to every household per year, ₹15,000 per year to every schoolgoing child, 20 lakh job opportunities or an unemployment allowance of ₹3,000 per month, ₹1,500 per month to every woman above 18 years, and financial assistance of ₹20,000 per year to every farmer.

The Congress won two Assembly elections — in Karnataka and Telangana — last year based on such pre-poll promises.
