TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday, 28 May, used the 2023 edition of Mahanadu — the party’s annual celebration to mark the birth anniversary of its founder and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister NT Rama Rao — to launch an election manifesto for the upcoming Assembly election in the state.

These included several items of financial assistance to people from various sections of society, with a special focus on women.

He also said the party would be at the forefront when it came to protecting the interests of Andhra Pradesh in all aspects.

Addressing a mammoth meeting organised to mark the culmination of the two-day Mahanadu at Rajamahendravaram in the East Godavari district, he said, “If anyone tries to stop us then we will trample them and proceed ahead.”

Rajamahendravaram and its surroundings turned yellow, with party activists decorating the meeting venue and the lanes and bylanes connecting it with yellow banners and flags.

He said only his goodness had been seen so far, and now he would take the responsibility of punishing political bullies.

Naidu credits NTR for AP development

Praising the services rendered by former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao — his father-in-law — for the development of Andhra Pradesh after setting up the TDP, he said the actor-turned-politician former was born in a common family and worked hard to rise and establish a party and subsequently became the chief minister.

NT Rama Rao brought recognition to Telugu society across the globe, said Naidu.

The credit for giving political reservations to women would go to NT Rama Rao, he added.

“Those who tried to harm the TDP suffered irrecoverable losses. During its tenure in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the TDP government introduced several reforms aimed at benefiting the people,” he said.

Promises in the manifesto

Naidu also told the gathering a manifesto with a guarantee of the future would be introduced. He subsequently released an election manifesto in the name of a future guarantee.

The salient features of the manifesto include financial assistance of ₹20,000 to farmers every year, ₹1,500 to women aged between 18 and 59, financial assistance of ₹15,000 for child education, three free gas cylinders to each family, free travelling facilities for women in RTC buses in districts, ₹3,000 unemployment dole to the jobless youth, and 20 lakh jobs in five years under the Yuva Galam scheme.

He also said that after the YSRCP government came to power, the GST collections and revenues dropped significantly in Andhra Pradesh.

This hampered the development of the state, Naidu said, adding that the development that happened during his tenure was now helping Telangana, resulting in a rise in its revenue collections.

Since morning, the TDP cadre patiently heard the speeches of leaders braving the scorching heat. But in the evening, the climate changed suddenly as heavy rain lashed the area.

The rain, however, failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the cadre as they listened to the leaders’ speeches.

The party leadership expressed happiness over the large turnout at the Mahanadu.
