Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Oberoi Group MD Vikram Oberoi take part in the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of a seven-star hotel in the YSR district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, 9 July, 2023.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his home district of YSR Kadapa on Sunday, 9 July, unveiled the plaques and virtually laid the foundation stone for the construction of seven-star Oberoi Hotels at Gandikota, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati.

The ground-breaking ceremony was a follow-up of the MoU signed with the Oberoi Group at the Global Investors Summit at Visakhapatnam in March.

Senior officials on behalf of the government and Oberoi Group MD Vikram Oberoi signed the MoU in the presence of the Chief Minister.

Participating in the Bhoomi Puja at Gadikota in the YSR Kadapa district, the chief minister said that it would help Gandikota, known as the Grand Canyon of India, find a place on the world tourism map.

“It would provide direct and indirect employment to 500-800 persons besides boosting development in and around Gandikota,” he said, adding that the Oberoi Hotel and Resort would play an anchoring role and attract more projects.

With the seven-star hotel facility coming up, the YSR district is expected to become popular globally, he said, adding that he had requested Vikram Oberoi to explore the possibility of setting up a golf course there.

The chief minister also said that the YSR Kadapa Steel Factory would get environmental clearance before this month was over, and the factory works would be expedited after that.

“During my visit to Koparthy Industrial Estate on Monday, we will sign MoUs with home audio systems manufacturing company Channel Play and LED TV manufacturing company Techno Dam India. These two companies will provide employment to 350 persons,” he said.

At Koparthy, a Dixon Technologies project providing 1,000 jobs would be inaugurated, he said.

Vikram Oberoi, who also addressed the gathering, expressed hope that the hotel and resort facility would serve as an engine of economic growth and generate employment for the youth.

He also thanked the chief minister and the official machinery for extending their cooperation.

Jagan pays homage to father

Jagan kicked off his three-day visit to Kadapa on Saturday, when he paid rich tributes to his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy at YSR Ghat on the occasion of the former chief minister’s birth anniversary.

Besides placing a wreath on his memorial and garlanding his statue, Jagan sat in silence at the ghat for a while and offered prayers as religious preachers recited holy verses.

Apart from his mother YS Vijayamma and wife YS Bharati Reddy, several party leaders — including minister P Ramachandra Reddy and MP YS Avinash Reddy — were also present.

Taking to Twitter, the chief minister described the occasion as a festival for the people.

“You always strived for improving the living standards of people, wished that children in every household pursued higher education, and that people live in happiness and prosperity. It earned you a permanent place in people’s hearts,” he said.

The inspiration provided by his father had been handholding him in achieving his aspirations, said Jagan.

Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders celebrated YSR Jayanti at the Party Central Office. Several Ministers, Party leaders and activists garlanded the statue of YSR and cut the cake while several service programmes were held across the state.

₹1,117 crore for crop insurance claims

Before going to Idupulapaya in Kadapa, Jagan visited Kalyanadurgam in the Anantapruamu district on Saturday.

He released ₹1,117.21 crore towards insurance claims benefiting 10.20 lakh farmers who incurred crop losses in the kharif season of 2022.

The amount was released under the Dr YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme, coinciding with the Rythu Dinotsavam being observed on the birth anniversary of Rajasekhara Reddy.

The chief minister also formally inaugurated Multipurpose Facilitation Centre (MPFC) godowns and 52 Dr YSR Agri Testing Labs developed with an expenditure of ₹63.93 crore. With this, the number of such labs across the state has gone up to 127.

He addressed a huge public meeting of farmers before releasing the amount directly into the bank accounts of affected farmers through the click of a button.

“On this day, farmers remember schemes like Aarogyasri, Jalayagnam, 104 and 108 ambulance services, fee reimbursement and lakhs of houses constructed by YSR for the poor,” he said.

“We have named several welfare schemes after YSR to respect him and cherish his memories forever,” he added.

Andhra Pradesh was the only state where the government had been implementing various unique welfare schemes for the sake of farmers, he said, adding that other states and experts in other countries were keenly observing its implementation of programmes.

Taking on TDP

At Kalyanadurgam, describing the coming elections as political Kurukshetra, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy cautioned people to be wary of political wolves who were coming together again to pursue the policies of plunder, stash, and devour.

Addressing a huge public meeting on Saturday on the occasion of Rythu Dinotsavam, which coincided with the birth anniversary of his father, the chief minister urged people to choose between the YSRCP, which he said implements welfare schemes sincerely, and the pack of political wolves which loot public money.

Reiterating that he had been following in the footsteps of his father, he said he would continue to work for the welfare of farmers and other social groups with a commitment and morality like him.

“So far, we have spent ₹2.25 lakh crore on various welfare schemes with commitment and sincerity. The TDP failed to implement welfare schemes during its rule. But now, the TDP, aided by its friendly media and foster son (Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan), are aiming at coming to power with false promises eying to loot the public money once again,” he warned the people.
