Alla Nani's demise has cast a pall of gloom over Eluru and the erstwhile combined district of West Godavari.
Former deputy chief minister and health minister of Andhra Pradesh Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas (Alla Nani) passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 15, after suffering a heart attack at his residence in Seethammadhara, Visakhapatnam. He was 56.
Alla Nani’s demise has cast a pall of gloom over Eluru and the erstwhile combined district of West Godavari.
In a political career spanning nearly three decades, Alla Nani was associated with the Congress, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Born on December 30, 1969, in Eluru, Alla Nani entered politics through the Youth Congress. He rose through the ranks of the Congress by maintaining close ties with Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
After losing the 1994 and 1999 elections, he was elected to the Assembly for the first time from Eluru in 2004 as a Congress candidate. He won from the same constituency again in 2009, securing a second consecutive term in the Assembly.
Following developments within the Congress after the death of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he joined the YSR Congress Party in 2013. Although he lost the 2014 Assembly election from Eluru, his prominence within the party continued to grow. In 2017, he was elected as an MLC.
In the 2019 Assembly elections, he contested from Eluru again and won. After the formation of the YSRCP government, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy assigned him the portfolios of Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education in his first cabinet. He was also appointed the deputy chief minister.
In the 2022 cabinet reshuffle, he lost his ministerial post. He subsequently remained active in Eluru politics and continued to participate in party activities.
Alla Nani lost the elections from Eluru in the 2024 Assembly elections. Following the defeat, he resigned from the YSRCP, stepping down as the party’s district president and constituency in-charge. He announced that he would stay away from active politics for some time.
His break from active politics did not last long. In February 2025, he joined the TDP in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Alla Nani’s political colleagues, including Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, expressed condolences over his sudden demise. They remembered Nani as a leader who stayed away from controversies and maintained cordial relations with people across political lines.
