‘Credit Chori’ and ‘Liquor Mafia’: Jagan Mohan Reddy tears into TDP over Google project and spurious liquor

Jagan also held that the ongoing liquor racket was being operated “by Chandrababu’s syndicate,” with TDP members “exposed in several places for manufacturing, supplying, and selling spurious liquor.”

YS Jagan

Synopsis: Speaking about the Google’s Data Centre in Visakhapatnam, Jagan alleged, “Chandrababu has been making false claims about the Data Centre and attempting to hijack credit, even though the YSRCP had sown the seeds for the project.”

YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy came down heavily on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of running a “spurious liquor syndicate,” hijacking credit for projects initiated by the previous government, and misleading the public with false claims.

Addressing the media in Tadepalli on Thursday, 23 October, Jagan charged that Chandrababu was “resorting to his old game of Credit Chori,” perhaps inspired by the LoP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Chori’ campaign.

‘Credit Chori’

Speaking about the Google’s Data Centre in Visakhapatnam, Jagan alleged, “Chandrababu has been making false claims about the Data Centre and attempting to hijack credit, even though the YSRCP had sown the seeds for the project, when in office.”

Jagan clarified that “Google and Adani are business associates,” adding, “Adani is investing ₹87,000 crore in the project, and Google will take over once it is built. The credit belongs to the YSRCP, not Chandrababu. What he is doing is pure Credit Chori,” he declared.

He added, “He is boasting about bringing Google to Visakhapatnam and replaying the same script as with Hyderabad’s Cyber Towers, which were actually the effort of N Janardhan Reddy.”

Jagan continued, “Unlike his claims, Hyderabad developed during YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s tenure, and progress continued thereafter. Chandrababu has always been known for hijacking credit rather than creating it.”

Spurious liquor racket

Jagan also held that the ongoing liquor racket was being operated “by Chandrababu’s syndicate,” with TDP members “exposed in several places for manufacturing, supplying, and selling spurious liquor.”

He claimed that “at every stage, from production to sale, his people are involved,” adding that one in every four liquor bottles sold in the state was fake.

He further questioned why no action was being taken against those linked to the ruling party. “The issue comes to light only when there are disputes over sharing the spoils,” he noted. Calling for an impartial probe, Jagan demanded that “the entire scam can be exposed only if a Central agency conducts a probe.”

The YSRCP chief alleged that Chandrababu’s inner circle had international links. “Jayachandra Reddy, who was nominated by the TDP, mentioned distilleries in South Africa in his affidavit. Chandrababu should answer my pointed questions instead of diverting public attention by blaming the opposition,” he quipped.

‘Mass Movement’ against privatisation of medical colleges

Jagan Mohan Reddy also announced that the YSRCP would soon launch a “mass movement” against the privatisation of government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh, calling it a “betrayal of public health.” He said the coalition government was “diluting Aarogyasri and handing over medical colleges to private parties,” undermining the right to affordable healthcare.

He declared that a one-crore signature campaign would be rolled out across the state to mobilise public opinion. “This campaign will serve as a referendum against the coalition government,” Jagan said. “We will carry it out with full vigour to raise awareness and protect the people’s right to healthcare.”

Jagan further accused the government of cheating employees by failing to deliver on election promises. “Salaries are delayed, arrears remain uncleared, and several benefits are denied. During our government, employees had no issues. We stood by them even during COVID and safeguarded their interests,” he said.

Pointing to an agricultural crisis, he said that farmers were “suffering due to the government’s apathy.” “There is no Minimum Support Price for any crop, and farmers are not getting urea or seeds at subsidised rates. The entire sector is bearing the brunt of this neglect,” he remarked.

“Our movement will not stop until justice is done—for the poor, for farmers, and for the future of public healthcare in Andhra Pradesh,” he concluded.
