Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu lays foundation for $15 billion AI cloud hub in Visakhapatnam

The state government has allocated around 600 acres of land across Tarluvada, Rambilli and Adavivaram areas to facilitate the development of the AI data centre ecosystem.

Synopsis: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for a massive Artificial Intelligence (AI) cloud hub being set up by Google in Visakhapatnam. The government claimed it marked a major milestone in the state’s push to emerge as a global digital infrastructure destination.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday, 28 April, laid the foundation stone for a massive Artificial Intelligence (AI) cloud hub being set up by Google in Visakhapatnam.

The government claimed that it marked a major milestone in the state’s push to emerge as a global digital infrastructure destination.

The project, being developed with an estimated investment of $15 billion, will include a hyperscale AI-enabled cloud data centre and supporting digital ecosystem. The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with Adani Group’s AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel’s Nxtra Data, two major players in India’s data infrastructure space.

Chief minister inspects Google Experience Zone

The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Communications and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, Google Global Infrastructure and Cloud Vice-President Bikas Koley, along with senior industry leaders and government representatives.

Among the prominent attendees were Andhra Pradesh IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh, Hyderabad US Consul General Laura E Williams, Bharti Enterprises Vice Chairman Rakesh Mittal, Adani Group representative Jeet Adani, and Google India Vice-President Preeti Lobana.

Union Ministers K Rammohan Naidu and Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, along with district in-charge Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and Member of Parliament Mathukumilli Sribharat, were also present at the event.

Before the ceremony, the chief minister inspected the Google Experience Zone at the venue, which showcased the company’s latest advancements in cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies.

The AI cloud hub will feature a 1-gigawatt hyperscale data centre to be established in Tarluvada, Visakhapatnam district. The state government has allocated around 600 acres of land across Tarluvada, Rambilli and Adavivaram areas to facilitate the development of the AI data centre ecosystem.

The presence of hyperscale data centres is expected to position Visakhapatnam as a key node in India’s AI and cloud computing landscape.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stressed the importance of robust digital infrastructure in driving India’s future economy and said projects like these would strengthen the country’s capabilities in AI and data processing.
