Chandrababu Naidu bail conditions

The way TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu reached home late at night on Tuesday, 31 October, after his release from the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison is becoming controversial.

Naidu was granted interim conditional bail to enable him to have his health checked at the hospital of his choice and also undergo cataract surgery on his right eye.

The court, while issuing bail, specifically told the respondent/petitioner not to participate in political rallies and give any press interviews — including both print and digital media — nor make any public comments in connection with this case until disposal of the petition.

Now, the YSRCP is levelling allegations that he violated all the bail conditions during his journey back home.

As soon as he emerged out of the jail at about 4.30 pm on Tuesday, a huge crowd waiting outside the prison greeted him.

After coming out, he had an emotional reunion with his family members.

His face split into a smile when he saw Devansh, his grandson rushing to him.

Later, speaking to reporters, he thanked the people for the solidarity and support they had extended to him while he was in prison.

He, however, refrained from making any political speech.

Subsequently, he left for his residence in Undavalli near Vijayawada in a motorcade that could also be construed as the kind of procession that the court had forbidden.

Chandrababu Naidu greeted people as he travelled by road to his residence, which took him about 13 hours as people kept stopping the convoy to take a closer look at him.

Earlier plans cancelled

After reaching home, Naidu was accorded a warm welcome by his wife Bhuvaneswari, priests, and family members. Inside his home, he performed pooja and later retired for the day.

Even though the TDP had planned an informal meeting with him and party leaders, it was cancelled on the advice of the lawyers that it might be construed as a violation of the bail conditions.

The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister initially planned to visit the Tirumala temple to seek Lord Venkateswara’s blessings and fly from there to Hyderabad.

However, he decided against it since the bail was granted on health grounds and the entire four weeks’ time should be spent for the purpose for which it had been granted.

He has decided to visit AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad for a health check-up and LV Prasad’s hospital for cataract surgery on his right eye.

YSRCP alleges violation of bail conditions

The YSRCP, meanwhile, in a message on X, said that Chandrababu Naidu, after his release from prison, violated all the conditions under which he was granted bail.

Though the court had said that he should not speak to the media or lead rallies, he spoke to reporters and then set out for Vijayawada in a rally, the party said.

After walking out of jail, he addressed the crowd using a mike, the YSRCP said, adding that counsels of the CID were contemplating bringing these violations to the notice of the court.

TDP claims

Late on Tuesday night, TDP Andhra Pradesh president K Atchannaidu, in a letter to Vijayawada Commissioner of Police (CP) Kanti Rana Tata, maintained that Chandrababu Naidu had not violated any of the interim bail conditions.

“Naidu travelled strictly in accordance with the conditions of the bail under which he was released. He did not convert his journey into a political yatra,” he said.

“Though thousands of people thronged the roads to get a glimpse of Naidu, he did not step out of his car. He greeted them from inside his car through the glass windows. He also requested the CP not allow other vehicles in the convoy,” he said.

TDP sources claimed that as Naidu was travelling by road, several vehicles joined his convoy without his knowledge.

In fact, at one stage, Chandrababu Naidu asked the police why they were not clearing the road for him to reach home, to which the police said it was taking time to convince them to move away, the sources said.

They reportedly told Naidu that they did not want to use force to disperse the crowds, added the sources.
