Telangana CM embarassed after demolition of structure outside Jagan's house

The removal of unauthorised temporary structures jutting onto the road at former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad by the municipal staff on Saturday, 15 June is understood to have riled Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to no end as it was done without his knowledge.

Coming as it did close on the heels of his ‘Guru’ N Chandrababu Naidu taking over as the Chief Minister of neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh on 12 June, an impression began gaining ground in political circles that Revanth Reddy had done it to please his mentor.

But Revanth Reddy was not aware of the demolition of the structures until it was done. What was more embarrassing to him was that he also holds the municipal administration portfolio. Even the in-charge commissioner of GHMC Amrapali Kata came to know about its removal only after it was done.

Official transferred

Red-faced, Amrapali on Sunday, 16 June transferred Khairtabad Zonal commissioner, 2018 batch IAS officer Bhorkhade Hemant Sahadeorao. The transfer was for not taking her permission for clearing the structures outside Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence.

It appears it did not occur to the zonal commissioner to keep his boss, Amrapali, in the loop.  An official working under him claimed that instructions for removal came from Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who uses the road every day. Venkat Reddy is said to have asked for the unauthorised structure to be removed but due process was not followed. Venkat Reddy’s grouse — traffic hassle that the structure was supposedly causing in the vicinity he lives.

Revanth Reddy, who has an uneasy relationship with Venkat Reddy appears to have been upset over the way the illegal structures had been removed. Though what was done was perfectly legal, what ruffled the chief minister and Amrapali was that neither of them were kept in the loop either by the Minister or the Zonal Commissioner.

As the removal of the encroachments outside Jagan Mohan Reddy has political implications, Revanth Reddy is understood to be very much upset as it would show him as doing a favour to Naidu as the latter’s enmity with Jagan Mohan Reddy is widely known, at a time when he did not.

This apart, any association of his name with Chandrababu Naidu always causes discomfiture to Revanth Reddy, though he is his protege and worked under him when he was in Telugu Desam party. This is because the BRS might exploit his Naidu-connection, as it always does, to paint him as anti-Telangana and that he was trying to align with Naidu much to the possible detriment of interests of Telangana state.
